Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, water heaters and microwaves are named bulky waste items, and CHaRM takes appliances and tools.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Appliances are named bulky waste items collected by request within the four free pickups a year, and CHaRM accepts appliances and tools for its own facility fee.
When & how
Schedule a bulky pickup online or by calling (706) 613-3501 option 7, and keep propane tanks on the CHaRM route because the bulky program refuses them.
Get it ready
Empty the appliance, keep lawn equipment such as mowers drained of oil and gas before set-out, and keep the appliance between the curb and sidewalk and clear of intersections, hydrants and drainage.
Roll carts go out by 7:00 AM and come back the same day
Trash goes in the blue roll cart with a black lid and recycling goes in the green cart with a yellow lid, carts go to the street by 7:00 AM on collection day with handles facing the house and two feet from each other and from mailboxes and other obstructions, and carts come back from the curb at the end of the collection day. Trash has to be bagged and recyclables stay loose.
Bulky items go out the day before, with distance rules
Bulky items go between the curb and sidewalk no earlier than 24 hours before the collection date and by 7:00 AM of the pickup day, and they must not sit closer than fifty feet from an intersection or within ten feet of a fire hydrant, must not block mailboxes, driveways, sidewalks, drainage or utility access, and must not be placed under overhead wires. County vehicles do not enter private property to collect bulky items.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
An eligible residential address with furniture, a mattress, appliances, large electronics, exercise equipment or other oversized household items.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Bulky waste collection is funded through property taxes with no fee for four pickups a year and up to five items per pickup at single family detached, duplex and four-plex addresses in the General Service and Urban Service Districts. Depending on the property zoning an additional fee may apply for bulky waste pickup.

Residents of Athens-Clarke County pay the lower published facility fee, out-of-county customers pay the higher fee, and no cash and no American Express are accepted.
Arrange it
Take the material to 1005 College Ave in Athens, open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with at least 30 minutes before closing, and bring proof of residency.
No gasoline or fuels are accepted, commercial deliveries need an appointment at 706-296-7832, and appliances, tools, mattresses, televisions, monitors, tires, propane tanks, paint and household chemicals carry item fees while batteries, scrap metal, pallets, Styrofoam and mixed recyclables are free.

Residential customers need no appointment, commercial customers must make an appointment with the Household Hazardous Waste Supervisor at 706-296-7832 for fee-based delivery, no gasoline or fuels are accepted, no cash and no American Express are accepted, and proof of residency can be a government identification, student identification or utility bill.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in Athens?+
Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.
Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?+
Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.
Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?+
Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.
Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
Which appliances does Athens-Clarke County take as bulky waste?+
Microwave ovens, washers and dryers, stoves, dishwashers, water heaters, refrigerators and freezers are named bulky waste items collected by request, with up to five items per pickup and four free pickups a year. Lawn mowers are accepted only with the oil and gas removed, and propane tanks are refused in the bulky pile and go to CHaRM instead.Official guidance
Who collects trash in Athens-Clarke County?+
The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department does, with trash in the blue roll cart with a black lid and recycling in the green cart with a yellow lid, plus a separate leaf and limb route and a by-request bulky waste program.
