Mattresses and box springs are named bulky waste items, and CHaRM also takes them for a per-item fee.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Bulky waste collection is funded through property taxes with no fee for four pickups per year, up to five items each and twenty items a year at eligible residential addresses, and pickups after the fourth are cost-of-service.
When & how
Schedule a bulky pickup online or by calling (706) 613-3501 option 7, then put the mattress and box springs between the curb and sidewalk no earlier than 24 hours before the collection date and by 7:00 AM of the pickup day.
Get it ready
Keep the items clear of intersections, fire hydrants, mailboxes, driveways, sidewalks and drainage, keep them off private property because county vehicles do not enter, and keep bagged trash, construction debris, batteries, tires and hazardous materials out of the pile because the program refuses them.
Roll carts go out by 7:00 AM and come back the same day
Trash goes in the blue roll cart with a black lid and recycling goes in the green cart with a yellow lid, carts go to the street by 7:00 AM on collection day with handles facing the house and two feet from each other and from mailboxes and other obstructions, and carts come back from the curb at the end of the collection day. Trash has to be bagged and recyclables stay loose.
Bulky items go out the day before, with distance rules
Bulky items go between the curb and sidewalk no earlier than 24 hours before the collection date and by 7:00 AM of the pickup day, and they must not sit closer than fifty feet from an intersection or within ten feet of a fire hydrant, must not block mailboxes, driveways, sidewalks, drainage or utility access, and must not be placed under overhead wires. County vehicles do not enter private property to collect bulky items.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
An eligible residential address with furniture, a mattress, appliances, large electronics, exercise equipment or other oversized household items.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Bulky waste collection is funded through property taxes with no fee for four pickups a year and up to five items per pickup at single family detached, duplex and four-plex addresses in the General Service and Urban Service Districts. Depending on the property zoning an additional fee may apply for bulky waste pickup.

From $3 per trip facility fee for Athens-Clarke County residents, with item fees such as mattresses and box springs, televisions, monitors, tires, propane tanks, paint, household chemicals and cleaners, fluorescent tubes, light bulbs and nitrous oxide tanks charged separately. Residents of Athens-Clarke County pay the lower published facility fee, out-of-county customers pay the higher fee, and no cash and no American Express are accepted.
Arrange it
Take the material to 1005 College Ave in Athens, open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with at least 30 minutes before closing, and bring proof of residency.
No gasoline or fuels are accepted, commercial deliveries need an appointment at 706-296-7832, and appliances, tools, mattresses, televisions, monitors, tires, propane tanks, paint and household chemicals carry item fees while batteries, scrap metal, pallets, Styrofoam and mixed recyclables are free.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Athens?+
Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.
Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?+
The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.
Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?+
Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.
Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?+
You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.
How does an Athens-Clarke County mattress leave the curb?+
