Appliances and scrap metal

Special rules apply

Small appliances go in the garbage cart, the recycling center takes appliances and scrap metal around the clock, and refrigerant appliances are refused at the curb and at the landfill.

City cost & eligibility
The Rome-Floyd Recycling Center takes appliances and scrap metal in its drop-off area, and no fee is published for those materials, so confirm whether a charge applies with the center at 706-291-5266 before loading. The county states it does not pay for metals.
When & how
Take appliances and scrap metal to the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center at 412 Lavender Drive, where the drop-off area is open around the clock, and call the center at 706-291-5266 before a large load.
Get it ready
Keep a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or anything else that uses refrigerant gas out of the garbage cart and off a load bound for the landfill, because the city refuses those items and the Walker Mountain Landfill refuses appliances containing freon.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Carts go out on the collection day and stay inside the city carts

The city runs a four day collection schedule and collects household garbage, the recycling cart, the yard waste cart and junk items on the same day between 7 am and 5 pm. Garbage has to fit inside the city-issued 65 gallon cart with the lid closed because the city does not pick up trash outside the cart, recyclables go loose in the 65 gallon recycling cart, and the 95 gallon yard waste cart takes compostable yard debris with no leaves in garbage bags and no rocks or dirt.

Curbside collection page with the four day schedule, the cart fees, the recycling list, the scheduled large item route and the refused items

Construction debris, liquid waste, freon appliances and hazardous waste stay out of the carts

The city does not collect construction or demolition material, including roofing, rock, cement, dirt, paint, oil or any free liquid, and it does not collect freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners or any item that uses refrigerant gas. The Rome-Floyd Recycling Center never accepts mattresses, furniture, tires, glass or compost, and the Walker Mountain Landfill refuses hazardous waste, asbestos, batteries, liquid waste, tires on rims, appliances containing freon and any load that mixes garbage with yard trimmings.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Appliance removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Rome.

How much does appliance removal cost in Rome?

A full-size household refrigerator is $109 as a single item. A washing machine is $109, and a dryer is $109. Other appliances have their own catalog prices. Choose each item to see your exact total before booking; disposal and recycling costs are included in the item price.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in Rome?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.

Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

Where do Rome appliances go?

Small appliances can go in the garbage cart, and the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center takes appliances and scrap metal in a drop-off area open around the clock at 412 Lavender Drive, but no fee is published for that drop-off, so confirm with the center at 706-291-5266 before loading. The center's published free service is confidential shredding Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and anything that uses refrigerant gas are refused in the cart and at the landfill, so confirm a refrigerant appliance route with the office at 706-236-4580 or the center at 706-291-5266.Official guidance

The City of Rome Solid Waste Collections department does, on a four day schedule with household garbage, recycling, yard waste and junk items collected the same day between 7 am and 5 pm. Call 706-236-4580 for your area's day, and the office at 200 Vaughn Road handles carts, billing questions and scheduling.Official guidance
