City cost & eligibility
No per item curbside rate is published, because a large item pickup is part of the subscribed cart service that the office schedules, and the Walker Mountain Landfill charges by weight at its gate tiers. Confirm the route and the cost with the office or the landfill before anything goes out.
When & how
Put the mattress on the street by 7 am on your garbage service day and then call the Solid Waste Collections office at 706-236-4580 to schedule the pickup, or take it to the Walker Mountain Landfill during its posted hours.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress clear of the carts and out of the recycling cart, keep it dry and covered where you can, and keep it out of any load that mixes garbage with yard trimmings because the landfill refuses those loads.
Carts go out on the collection day and stay inside the city carts
The city runs a four day collection schedule and collects household garbage, the recycling cart, the yard waste cart and junk items on the same day between 7 am and 5 pm. Garbage has to fit inside the city-issued 65 gallon cart with the lid closed because the city does not pick up trash outside the cart, recyclables go loose in the 65 gallon recycling cart, and the 95 gallon yard waste cart takes compostable yard debris with no leaves in garbage bags and no rocks or dirt.
Large items go on the street by 7 am, then get scheduled
A collection of larger items such as old furniture goes on the street by 7 am on the garbage service day, and the office schedules the pickup after the items are on the curb, so call 706-236-4580 to arrange it. Loose limbs and brush too large for the yard cart may also go out for the grabber truck when the pile is under 500 pounds and under 4 cubic yards, with limbs no longer than 8 feet or heavier than 200 pounds, and that collection runs by route with a four to six week return.

$11 per month for the city-issued 65 gallon garbage cart, which includes curbside garbage, recycling and scheduled large item collection. City of Rome residential utility customers, with an additional cart at 8.60 per month and each yard waste cart at 1.80 per month.

Call 706-236-4580 for your collection day, put everything out by 7 am, keep garbage inside the city cart, and put large items on the street by 7 am before calling to schedule the pickup.
No construction or demolition material, no liquid waste, no freon appliances, and no trash outside the city-issued cart, because garbage has to fit with the lid closed.

Cost & conditions
From $10 for the gate rate for zero to 250 pounds of garbage or construction and demolition material, rising on the published tier schedule to 46 dollars per ton above 2001 pounds. Floyd County waste only, with inert material charged on lower tiers and tires at a per pound rate, and no hazardous waste, asbestos, batteries, liquid waste, tires on rims or appliances containing freon.
Arrange it
Take the load to the Walker Mountain Landfill, open Monday through Friday 8 AM to 4 PM and Saturday 8 AM to 2 PM, and call 706-291-4512 with any question.
Waste from outside Floyd County is refused, the landfill is not a remote site for free bagged garbage, and loads that mix garbage with yard trimmings or that carry freon appliances, batteries or tires on rims are refused.
