City cost & eligibility
From $20 for the published per item charge for a mattress or box springs at the Blalock Road location of the Cherokee County Recycling Center. Cherokee County residents dropping the item at the Blalock Road center, where pay items are accepted and payment is by card or check only because cash is not taken. The City bulky item pickup is a separate route with no published rate, arranged through Canton Public Works.

Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and out of the weather so it can be lifted, and set it out only after the pickup is confirmed. A mattress counts as the single bulky piece for the monthly request, which also refuses anything over 50 pounds, so ask the department if a bed frame is being added to the load.
Neither the bulky item pickup nor the brush pickup happens on its own. Both are scheduled by calling Canton Public Works at 770-720-7674, bulky items run once per month per residential property and brush runs once a week per property on request. The free City collection site is the walk in or drive in alternative for the material it accepts.
The bulky item service refuses anything over 50 pounds and does not take cardboard boxes, and it is meant for a single piece of furniture, a mattress or another item that will not fit in the sanitation cart. A refrigerator or freezer also has to be emptied of food and tagged as freon free before the City collection site will take it.
The Cherokee County Recycling Center at 470 Blalock Road accepts appliances, batteries, mattresses, paint, flat screen televisions and monitors, bagged household trash, polystyrene and all electronics except tube televisions and CRT monitors, with published per item charges and payment by card or check only. Its Hobgood Park location takes single stream recyclables and glass only, and both sites refuse motor oil, antifreeze, tires, light bulbs, unbagged trash and construction waste.

Arrange it
Separate the pay items from the free recyclables, flatten every cardboard box before arrival because loose material is not unloaded, drive to 470 Blalock Road, and expect one visit per day per customer.
Pay items are accepted only at Blalock Road, and the center refuses tube and projection televisions, CRT monitors, light bulbs, motor oil, antifreeze, tires, wood or plastic furniture, building and construction waste, plastic film and any load larger than a pickup truck bed.

Pay items are accepted only at this location, cardboard has to be flattened before arrival, single stream material has to arrive in a container and no loose material is unloaded from a vehicle, cash is not accepted, commercial recycling is refused, and one visit per customer per day is allowed. Refused material includes tube and projection televisions, CRT monitors, light bulbs of any type, unbagged household trash, wood or plastic furniture, plastic film, motor oil, antifreeze, tires, building and remodeling material, construction waste, vegetation unless it is bagged at a published per bag rate, and any load larger than a pickup truck bed.

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed.
