The City schedules bulky item pickups on request once a month per residential property, for single pieces of furniture, mattresses and other items that will not fit in the sanitation carts.
City cost & eligibility
The City publishes no rate for the bulky item pickup and arranges it by phone, so confirm the item, the pickup date and any charge with Canton Public Works on 770-720-7674. A piece that the pickup cannot take can also go to the free City collection site, or to the county recycling center where a published per item charge may apply.
When & how
Once per month per residential property, on a date scheduled by request through the Canton Public Works Department. The pickup is not automatic, so a piece stays at the curb only after the request is confirmed.
Get it ready
The pickup takes a single piece of furniture, a mattress or another item too large for the sanitation cart, and it refuses cardboard boxes and anything over 50 pounds. Keep the item out of the street, off the sidewalk, and away from fire hydrants, cable and utility boxes, stormwater catch basins and mailboxes, and check the weight of a heavy piece before setting it out.
Neither the bulky item pickup nor the brush pickup happens on its own. Both are scheduled by calling Canton Public Works at 770-720-7674, bulky items run once per month per residential property and brush runs once a week per property on request. The free City collection site is the walk in or drive in alternative for the material it accepts.
Keep the pile out of the street and off the sidewalk
Bulky items and yard debris stay out of the street and off sidewalks, and away from fire hydrants, cable and utility boxes, stormwater catch basins and mailboxes, so the equipment and emergency access remain clear. Brush and limbs also have to be under six inches in diameter and no longer than six feet, with a pile no taller than six feet and no wider than six feet.
The bulky item service refuses anything over 50 pounds and does not take cardboard boxes, and it is meant for a single piece of furniture, a mattress or another item that will not fit in the sanitation cart. A refrigerator or freezer also has to be emptied of food and tagged as freon free before the City collection site will take it.

No charge. City of Canton residents only, since the collection site offers free trash disposal to households inside the city limits. Commercial dumping, paints, chemicals and oils, brush and leaves, roof shingles, tires, dump trucks, dump trailers and box trucks are refused.
Arrange it
Drive the load to 2525 Ridge Road, Canton, during site hours: Monday from 7 a.m. to noon for senior day, closed Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch closure from 12 to 1 p.m., and closed Sunday.
The site is free but not open to commercial loads, and it refuses paint, chemicals, oils, brush, roof shingles and tires, so a load with those items needs another destination.
