A clear count. An exact price.

Count the bags and boxes, not everything inside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.

Filled bags and boxes

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.

Empty cardboard and containers

Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Furniture and other larger items

Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Bulky items and furniture

Accepted with preparation

The City schedules bulky item pickups on request once a month per residential property, for single pieces of furniture, mattresses and other items that will not fit in the sanitation carts.

City cost & eligibility
The City publishes no rate for the bulky item pickup and arranges it by phone, so confirm the item, the pickup date and any charge with Canton Public Works on 770-720-7674. A piece that the pickup cannot take can also go to the free City collection site, or to the county recycling center where a published per item charge may apply.
When & how
Once per month per residential property, on a date scheduled by request through the Canton Public Works Department. The pickup is not automatic, so a piece stays at the curb only after the request is confirmed.
Get it ready
The pickup takes a single piece of furniture, a mattress or another item too large for the sanitation cart, and it refuses cardboard boxes and anything over 50 pounds. Keep the item out of the street, off the sidewalk, and away from fire hydrants, cable and utility boxes, stormwater catch basins and mailboxes, and check the weight of a heavy piece before setting it out.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

A mattress is named in the City bulky item service, and the county recycling center also takes one for a published per item charge.

City cost & eligibility
From $20 for the published per item charge for a mattress or box springs at the Blalock Road location of the Cherokee County Recycling Center. Cherokee County residents dropping the item at the Blalock Road center, where pay items are accepted and payment is by card or check only because cash is not taken. The City bulky item pickup is a separate route with no published rate, arranged through Canton Public Works.
When & how
Through the City bulky item pickup scheduled once a month by request at 770-720-7674, or at the county recycling center during its open hours.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and out of the weather so it can be lifted, and set it out only after the pickup is confirmed. A mattress counts as the single bulky piece for the monthly request, which also refuses anything over 50 pounds, so ask the department if a bed frame is being added to the load.

Appliances and refrigerators

Accepted with preparation

The City collection site takes appliances free from city residents, and the county recycling center takes them for a published per item charge.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. City of Canton residents using the City collection site at 2525 Ridge Road, where trash disposal is free to households inside the city limits and the accepted list names washers and dryers, stoves, dishwashers, water heaters, and freezers and refrigerators that have been emptied of food and tagged as freon free. The county recycling center charges separately by item.
When & how
During collection site hours, which are Monday from 7 a.m. to noon as senior day, Thursday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch closure from 12 to 1 p.m., and closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, or at the county recycling center on its own schedule.
Get it ready
Empty the appliance completely, and tag a refrigerator or freezer as freon free, because the collection site accepts one only when it is emptied of food and carries that tag. A unit that still holds refrigerant, or an appliance taken to the county center instead, carries a published per item charge there, so ask before the trip.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

The county recycling center takes electronics at its Blalock Road location, with flat screen televisions and monitors carrying published per item charges and tube or projection sets refused.

City cost & eligibility
From $10 for the published per item charge for a flat screen computer monitor at the Blalock Road location, with flat screen televisions at a higher published per item charge. Cherokee County residents, with pay items accepted only at the Blalock Road location and payment by card or check because cash is not accepted. The center takes all electronics except tube televisions and CRT monitors, and light bulbs of any type are refused.
When & how
At the Blalock Road recycling center, open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, closed Sunday and Monday. The Hobgood Park location takes single stream recycling and glass only, so no electronics go there.
Get it ready
Take the device to Blalock Road rather than setting it at the curb, and keep tube televisions and CRT monitors out of the load because the center refuses them along with light bulbs of any type. Erase personal data before the device leaves the house, and keep batteries with the other battery material rather than inside the device.

Construction and remodeling material

Special rules apply

The City collection site takes some building material such as lumber, carpet and metal but refuses roof shingles, and the county recycling center refuses construction and remodeling waste.

City cost & eligibility
No rate covers a renovation load. The City collection site takes old lumber, carpet, metal and cardboard free from city residents but refuses roof shingles and commercial dumping, and the Cherokee County Recycling Center refuses building materials, home remodeling materials and construction waste. Confirm the material and the destination with City Public Works on 770-720-7674 before hauling.
When & how
During collection site hours for the material the site accepts, and through a permitted hauler or another receiving facility for the material both the City site and the county center refuse.
Get it ready
Separate the load, because lumber, carpet, metal, cardboard and household items can go to the free City collection site while shingles, commercial loads and construction waste cannot. Keep any load to what fits in the bed of a pickup truck or SUV if it is going to the county recycling center, which refuses anything larger, and keep chemicals and oils out of both routes.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is named nowhere in the City or county lists, so the machine is confirmed with the City bulky service before it goes out.

City cost & eligibility
The City publishes no rate for an item it does not name. Exercise equipment is not in the bulky item examples, which are single pieces of furniture and mattresses, so call Canton Public Works on 770-720-7674 and confirm whether the machine is collected, whether it counts as the monthly piece and whether it fits the 50 pound limit. A metal machine can also go to the county recycling center as metal.
When & how
Confirm first, then use the monthly bulky item pickup requested through Canton Public Works, or take a metal machine to the county recycling center during its open hours.
Get it ready
Describe the machine when you call, including whether it folds down and roughly what it weighs, because the City refuses anything over 50 pounds. Take off loose weights and the console, break the machine down as far as it comes apart, and keep the load out of the street and away from fire hydrants and utility boxes.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Ask before anything goes to the curb

Neither the bulky item pickup nor the brush pickup happens on its own. Both are scheduled by calling Canton Public Works at 770-720-7674, bulky items run once per month per residential property and brush runs once a week per property on request. The free City collection site is the walk in or drive in alternative for the material it accepts.

Keep the pile out of the street and off the sidewalk

Bulky items and yard debris stay out of the street and off sidewalks, and away from fire hydrants, cable and utility boxes, stormwater catch basins and mailboxes, so the equipment and emergency access remain clear. Brush and limbs also have to be under six inches in diameter and no longer than six feet, with a pile no taller than six feet and no wider than six feet.

Mind the 50 pound and cart limits

The bulky item service refuses anything over 50 pounds and does not take cardboard boxes, and it is meant for a single piece of furniture, a mattress or another item that will not fit in the sanitation cart. A refrigerator or freezer also has to be emptied of food and tagged as freon free before the City collection site will take it.

The county center takes the pay items

The Cherokee County Recycling Center at 470 Blalock Road accepts appliances, batteries, mattresses, paint, flat screen televisions and monitors, bagged household trash, polystyrene and all electronics except tube televisions and CRT monitors, with published per item charges and payment by card or check only. Its Hobgood Park location takes single stream recyclables and glass only, and both sites refuse motor oil, antifreeze, tires, light bulbs, unbagged trash and construction waste.

City of Canton Public Works with Waste Pro and the Cherokee County Recycling Center

County recycling center pay items

A Cherokee County household with an appliance, a mattress, a flat screen television or monitor, paint or batteries to drop off.

Cost & conditions
From $20 for the published per item charges at the Blalock Road location, where mattresses and box springs, flat screen televisions, air conditioners and riding mowers sit at the higher end and small appliances, monitors, paint cans and smaller items sit lower. Cherokee County residents dropping pay items at Blalock Road, where payment is by card or check only because cash is not accepted. Recyclables such as cans, plastic bottles, paper, flattened cardboard, glass and paperboard are free for county residents, and an out of county fee applies to others.
Arrange it
Separate the pay items from the free recyclables, flatten every cardboard box before arrival because loose material is not unloaded, drive to 470 Blalock Road, and expect one visit per day per customer.

Pay items are accepted only at Blalock Road, and the center refuses tube and projection televisions, CRT monitors, light bulbs, motor oil, antifreeze, tires, wood or plastic furniture, building and construction waste, plastic film and any load larger than a pickup truck bed.

With a new purchase

Permitted hauler for a project load

A household or contractor with construction, remodeling or land clearing debris that the City site and the county center refuse.

Cost & conditions
The City publishes no construction collection and the county center refuses building and remodeling material, so a hauler or container company quotes its own price and confirms the receiving facility.
Arrange it
Describe the material and where it will be staged, and confirm where the load is going before the container is delivered.

Roof shingles are refused at the City collection site, construction and remodeling waste are refused at the county recycling center, and no load larger than a pickup truck bed is taken at the county center.

See what the City will take

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Canton runs the collection in two layers and both of them reward a phone call first. Waste Pro handles the weekly garbage route and bills residents directly, the City schedules yard waste and bulky item pickups on request through Public Works, and the City also runs a free collection site at 2525 Ridge Road for city residents where lumber, carpet, metal, cardboard, appliances and household furniture can be dropped. What the City will not take has a county home. The Cherokee County Recycling Center at 470 Blalock Road takes appliances, batteries, mattresses, paint, bagged household trash, polystyrene, all metal and every electronic device except tube televisions and CRT monitors, with published per item charges for the pay items and payment by card or check. Its Hobgood Park location takes single stream recyclables and glass only. Neither the City site nor the county center takes motor oil, antifreeze or tires, and the county center refuses light bulbs, plastic film, wood or plastic furniture and construction waste, so those need a retailer or a scheduled event that should be confirmed first. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Canton.

How much does bulk junk removal cost in Canton?

A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?

No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.

Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?

Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.

How do I get a bulky item picked up?

Call the Canton Public Works Department at 770-720-7674 and request the pickup. The City schedules bulky items once per month per residential property, takes single pieces of furniture, mattresses and other items that will not fit in the sanitation carts, and refuses cardboard boxes and anything over 50 pounds.Official guidance

Where should a bulky item be placed?

Out of the street and off the sidewalk, and away from fire hydrants, cable and utility boxes, stormwater catch basins and mailboxes, so the collection equipment and emergency access stay clear. The same placement rule applies to yard debris, and a cardboard box or a piece over 50 pounds is refused instead of collected.Official guidance

How does a mattress leave the house?

Request the City bulky item pickup on 770-720-7674, which runs once per month per residential property and names mattresses among the accepted pieces. A mattress can also be taken to the Blalock Road location of the Cherokee County Recycling Center, where a published per item charge applies and payment is by card or check.Official guidance

What has to be done to a refrigerator?

It has to be emptied of all food and tagged as freon free before the City collection site will take it, and the same site takes washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers and water heaters. The county recycling center also takes appliances, with a published per item charge for small and full size units and a separate published charge for an air conditioner.Official guidance

Where do televisions and computers go?

To the Blalock Road location of the Cherokee County Recycling Center, which takes all electronics except tube televisions and CRT monitors. Flat screen televisions and flat screen computer monitors carry published per item charges, pay items are accepted only at Blalock Road, and payment is by card or check rather than cash.Official guidance

Which electronics are refused?

Tube style and projection televisions and CRT computer monitors, along with light bulbs of any type. The county center takes flat screen televisions, flat screen monitors and other electronics, and the Hobgood Park location accepts only single stream recyclables and glass, so an older television or monitor needs another destination that should be confirmed by phone on 770-516-4195.Official guidance

Where does remodeling debris go?

It depends on the material. Old lumber, carpet, metal and cardboard go free to the City collection site at 2525 Ridge Road for city residents, while roof shingles are refused there and building, remodeling and construction waste are refused at the Cherokee County Recycling Center. A project load that neither route takes needs a permitted hauler.Official guidance

Will the City take an exercise machine?

It is not named in the City bulky item service, which lists single pieces of furniture, mattresses and other items that will not fit in the sanitation carts, so call 770-720-7674 and confirm the machine before setting it out. The City refuses anything over 50 pounds, and a machine that is mostly metal can go to the county recycling center as metal instead.Official guidance

Who collects the waste in Canton?

Waste Pro, which has been the City of Canton's waste collection provider since 2022 and runs weekly garbage collection with optional bi weekly recycling, billing residents directly. The City's Public Works Department handles the yard waste and bulky item pickups on 770-720-7674 and runs the free collection site for city residents at 2525 Ridge Road.Official guidance

When is the City collection site open?

Monday from 7 a.m. to noon as senior day, closed Tuesday and Wednesday, and Thursday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch closure from 12 to 1 p.m. The site is closed Sunday, publishes separate holiday hours, and is free for City of Canton residents only.Official guidance

When is the county recycling center open?

Both county locations are closed Sunday and Monday and open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The Blalock Road location takes the pay items, Hobgood Park takes single stream recyclables and glass only, and holiday closures are announced on the county recycling center page.Official guidance

How do I pay at the county center?

By card or check, because the county recycling center does not accept cash, and a transaction fee applies to each payment. Pay items are accepted only at the Blalock Road location, while recyclables such as cans, plastic bottles, paper, flattened cardboard, glass and paperboard are free for Cherokee County residents.Official guidance

Are Christmas trees collected at the curb?

No. The City runs a free tree recycling program instead, with drop off at the collection site on 2525 Ridge Road during normal site hours on published dates, and the tree goes in without lights or decorations. There is no curbside pickup of trees.Official guidance
