One computer setup can be several items.

A separate monitor and tower count separately. Small devices and cables have their own box option. Choose what is actually leaving so your price matches the pickup.

Monitor, desktop or laptop.

Choose Computer monitor for each separate display. Desktop computer covers one tower or one all-in-one computer. A laptop is its own item. Add only the devices going.

Printer or office copier.

A printer with a built-in scanner belongs under Printer. A floor-standing copy machine belongs under Office copier. The shape matters more than the brand.

Use Box of electronics for small devices, cables and chargers together in one box. For a large or heavy box, unusual contents or separate batteries, send a photo and confirm the fit before booking.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are banned from Illinois landfills and have two routes in Aurora: a free city drive through event by registration, or a prepaid Groot curbside collection priced per item.

City cost & eligibility
From $45 for the published Groot charge for each e-waste item collected curbside, televisions priced separately. Groot charges 45.00 for each e-waste item collected other than a television, with televisions priced separately: one television under 50 pounds costs 100.00, each additional television under 50 pounds adds 15.00, and a television over 50 pounds carries an extra overweight charge. Get it ready
Registration for the city event opens Friday, August 7 at 7 a.m., is limited to the first 2,000 Aurora residents, requires identification, allows two screens per vehicle either televisions or computer screens plus unlimited other electronics, and refuses businesses, large appliances, batteries of any type, air conditioners, ballasts, bare CRT tubes, capacitors, carbon monoxide detectors, dehumidifiers, light bulbs, liquids, microwaves, salvaged units, smoke detectors, VHS tapes, wood speakers and medical equipment. Wipe personal data before any device leaves the house.

Schedule a prepaid Groot electronics collection

A household that missed the free event or has more than two screens or items the event refuses.

Cost & conditions
From $45 for the published Groot charge for each e-waste item collected other than a television. Groot charges 45.00 for each e-waste item other than a television, with televisions priced separately: one television under 50 pounds costs 100.00, each additional television under 50 pounds adds 15.00, and a television over 50 pounds carries an extra overweight charge. Arrange it
Call Groot at 630-892-9294 to schedule and prepay, then set the devices out for the arranged collection.

Television pricing is separate from the per item charge and the overweight charge is not published, so ask for the total when booking. The Illinois landfill ban means electronics should never go in the trash or the recycling cart.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Aurora runs on a sticker program rather than appointments for most bulky material. Groot collects trash, recycling, yard waste and large items on the same day by separate trucks, everything goes out by 6 a.m., and anything outside the cart needs a 2.75 sticker from a listed vendor or from City Hall at 44 E. Downer Place. Bulky material and small amounts of construction debris are tied into bundles no larger than two feet across, four feet long and 50 pounds with one sticker per bundle, single items such as a chair, a table or a mattress take one sticker each, and the hauler states the bulky and construction service is unlimited as long as each item is stickered. Appliances have to be scheduled ahead with Groot at 630-892-9294 and still take one sticker. Electronics are banned from Illinois landfills and can go free to the city's registered drive through event with a two screen limit per vehicle, or by a prepaid Groot collection at 45.00 per item other than a television, with one television under 50 pounds at 100.00 and each additional one adding 15.00 before any overweight charge. Hazardous products cannot be set out at all: paint, oil, automotive fluids, solvents, fertilizers, pesticides, pool chemicals and household batteries go free to the permanent drop off at 156 Fort Hill Drive in Naperville, open Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. City garbage and recycling page with the Groot contract, the five collection options, the cart sizes, the senior and low volume rates, the sticker rule for extra material and the holiday listWaste sticker page with the rule that large and bulk items require one sticker per item and the published price of 2.75 each at listed vendors or City HallHauler residential page with the service options, the sticker rule for material outside the container, the yard waste and brush rules, the bulky item and construction debris sticker rules, the appliance scheduling rule and the priced e-waste collectionFall electronics recycling page with the free drive through event date, hours, location, registration rule, screen limit, accepted item lists and refusal listHazardous materials page with the Fort Hill Drive facility address and weekend hours, the no cost drop off rule, the accepted material categories, the refusal list and the battery guidance

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Electronics removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Aurora.

How much does electronics pickup cost in Aurora?

A computer monitor is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Choose the actual devices and quantities to see your combined price online. A separate desktop tower and monitor are separate items. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; review the total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can you pick up old electronics today in Aurora?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout and have the prepared items outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done. The booking is for a day, not an exact arrival time.

Does computer removal include my monitor and printer?

Desktop computer covers one tower or one all-in-one computer. Add a separate monitor, printer or laptop as its own item if it is going too. For small devices, cables and chargers together, choose Box of electronics and check the description before booking.

Do you erase data from old computers?

Data erasure and certified data destruction are not included in Dropcurb removal. Back up the information you need, then follow the manufacturer’s sign-out and reset instructions before pickup. If a device cannot be erased or contains sensitive business information, arrange suitable data handling before giving it away. Completion photos confirm the pickup, not data destruction.Official guidance

Can I book one box of old cables and small electronics?

Yes. Box of electronics is an existing option for small devices, cables and chargers together in one box. A monitor, desktop computer and printer each have their own item option. Send a photo before booking for a large or heavy box, unusual contents or separate batteries so we can confirm the fit.

Where do televisions and computers go in Aurora?

Two routes. The free city electronics drive through event takes registered residents with a two screen limit per vehicle, and Groot collects electronics curbside by appointment at 630-892-9294 for 45.00 per item other than a television, with one television under 50 pounds at 100.00, each additional television under 50 pounds adding 15.00 and heavier televisions carrying an overweight charge. Electronics are banned from Illinois landfills.Official guidance

How does the free electronics event work?

The city hosts a free Electronics Recycling Drive-Thru, most recently on Saturday, August 22 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Route 59 Metra Train Station, 1090 N. Route 59. Registration opens about two weeks earlier, is limited to the first 2,000 Aurora residents, requires identification, and allows two screens per vehicle with unlimited other electronics. Businesses are not allowed.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Aurora?

Groot Industries collects under the city's contract, and its updated program offers five options including three trash cart sizes, two recycling cart sizes with unlimited recycling, a senior orange bag option and a low volume cart service. Groot bills quarterly, the carts stay Groot's property, and the hauler's number is 630-892-9294.Official guidance

How much is a waste sticker and what does it cover?

A sticker costs 2.75 and is sold at the listed vendors and at City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place. Large items and bulk items require one sticker per item, anything set outside the cart needs a sticker, and one sticker covers one bundle tied no larger than two feet across, four feet long and 50 pounds. Recycling never needs a sticker.Official guidance

What qualifies as a bulky item?

Anything that does not fit in a cart or container. The hauler names single items such as chairs, tables and mattresses at one sticker each, and tied bundles of material such as rolls of carpeting or small amounts of construction debris at one sticker per bundle, with the service unlimited as long as each item carries a sticker.Official guidance

How do I put out an appliance?

Call Groot at 630-892-9294 to schedule the appliance collection in advance, then affix one 2.75 sticker. The city names refrigerators, stoves and water heaters as examples, and empty units with secured doors are easier for the crew to handle.Official guidance
