A new use for the same space, once the old machine is outside and gone.

Room for what comes next

Your space can have a new purpose.

A home office. Room for a guest. A little more floor to enjoy. When an old machine is in the way, a clear pickup plan makes the next step easier.

The room is changing.

Book the equipment you are ready to let go of, whether it is one exercise bike or several machines. See the total before making the plan.

A replacement is coming.

Check whether your retailer includes removal. If the old treadmill is still your responsibility, give it a pickup day of its own.

It is not making the move.

Settle the price online, arrange to have it outside, and follow the pickup through text updates and completion photos. One less thing to coordinate before the keys change hands.

Match the machine

The right choice covers the right equipment.

Choose by the type of equipment. A brand name does not mean a different item, but a walking pad and a full treadmill do.

Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?

Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.

An exercise bike, elliptical or rower

Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.

Weights, racks and benches

Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Ready for pickup

Plan the move outside before pickup day.

A machine can be too heavy or awkward for a solo move. Arrange suitable help for indoor carrying, stairs or any dismantling needed to reach the outdoor pickup spot.

A pickup day is not an exact arrival window. Tell us before booking about a shared loading area, restricted outdoor access or equipment whose size or setup you are unsure how to select.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named on either Decatur page, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed with the hauler before it goes out even though a machine would look like the bulky household material the annual collections are for.

City cost & eligibility
No Decatur page names exercise equipment or publishes a rate for it, so call the assigned hauler and confirm the machine counts as one of the five bulky items before it is set out.
When & how
Call the assigned hauler to confirm the machine, then add it to one of the five bulky collections if it is accepted.
Get it ready
Describe the machine and its heaviest piece when calling, take it apart as far as it comes apart so two people can handle it, and keep any console or battery pack separate.

Know what the service package already includes

Basic residential service in Decatur covers once weekly collection of one garbage cart, weekly recycling, and unlimited weekly yard waste from March 1 through December 15 plus one additional pickup in January and one in February. It also includes five separate bulky waste collections a year with up to five items at each one, and a pickup may carry only one household appliance such as a refrigerator, oven or dishwasher along with no more than four other items. Expanded basic service adds a second garbage cart. Carts come in 64 or 96 gallon sizes and the hauler provides them.

The city sets protections on the private account

Even though the hauling is private, Decatur fixes several protections for residents: a hauler that misses an entire weekly collection cycle has to credit half of one month's rate, the city may reassign a whole neighborhood to a different hauler after a substantive pattern of poor service, an overage fee for excess garbage or bulky waste requires the hauler to hold photographic evidence and produce it on request, and a customer may pause collection for at least two months once a year for a one time 5 dollar stop and start fee. Residents who cannot place containers at the curb and have nobody at home who can get back door service at no charge once the hauler has medical verification.

Yard waste and recycling have their own routines

Yard waste goes out in any combination of biodegradable bags, stick bundles and privately owned containers marked yard waste only, with stickers available at the Civic Center box office in the main lobby, the second floor cashier windows and the Community Development Department on the third floor. Recycling reaches single-family homes and residences with up to six units, the assigned hauler runs the weekly collection, and the recycling fee is assessed on the water bill, with properties that do not use city water billed quarterly. If a recycling problem is not resolved with the hauler, the city may help at 217-424-2727.

Book a bulky collection with your hauler

A Decatur household with furniture, a mattress the hauler confirms, an appliance or up to five bulky items.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Included in basic residential service: five bulky collections a year with up to five items each, and no more than one appliance per pickup with up to four other items.
Arrange it
Call the hauler assigned to the address: GFL at 217-935-5652, Waste Management at 800-796-9696, Jeremy Doolin Disposal at 217-422-5298, Doolin Disposal at 217-423-1680 or Murrell's Disposal at 217-519-0910.

Only one appliance may go out in a single pickup, the five item limit applies, and construction material, paint and electronics are not part of the bulky route.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Decatur has no city drop-off to send a resident to. The garbage and recycling pages publish no transfer station, landfill or hazardous waste site for the city, and the material that cannot go in the carts is routed to collections held by the Macon County Environmental Management Agency, which the city describes as frequently holding collections for items not accepted curbside such as paint and certain electronics. Those collections are the only published route for paint and certain electronics, and the city does not print their dates, place or fee, so a resident checks with the county agency or the free Recycle Coach app calendar before storing anything for one. Everything else runs through the private account: basic residential service includes five bulky collections a year with up to five items each and no more than one appliance per pickup with up to four other items, yard waste goes out weekly from March 1 to December 15 with an extra pickup in January and one in February, and recycling reaches homes of up to six units for a monthly fee on the water bill. Construction and demolition material has no published city programme and is arranged separately with a hauler or a container company. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Exercise equipment removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Decatur.

How much does exercise equipment removal cost in Decatur?

A household treadmill is $159 as the first item and $85 additional. An elliptical is $159 first and $85 additional; an exercise bike is $119 first and $40 additional. Choose all your items to see the combined price. Loading, transportation and disposal are included, with any applicable sales tax shown before payment.

Can you pick up a treadmill or exercise bike today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the equipment outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; we book a day rather than an exact appointment time.

Will you dismantle my treadmill or carry it out of the basement?

Dropcurb pickup starts outside. Arrange indoor carrying, stairs and any dismantling needed to get your equipment out before pickup. Check the moving instructions for your exact model and arrange suitable help. We load and haul away the equipment from an accessible outdoor spot.

Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?

Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.

How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?

Enter the combined weight in pounds for your dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Booking rounds that total up to the next 10 lb unit: 25 lb uses three units. Stands, racks and benches are separate items and do not include the loose weights. Add each one that is going.

Will a Decatur hauler take a treadmill?

Exercise equipment is not named on the city's garbage and recycling page or its recycling page, so call the hauler assigned to the address and confirm the machine first. If it is accepted it counts as one of the five bulky items allowed in a collection, inside the five collections a year included in basic residential service.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Decatur?

A private hauler the city licenses and assigns to each address, not a city crew. The city prints the contact numbers for GFL at 217-935-5652, Waste Management at 800-796-9696, Jeremy Doolin Disposal at 217-422-5298, Doolin Disposal at 217-423-1680 and Murrell's Disposal at 217-519-0910, and it sets what the service package has to include, from the weekly carts to five bulky collections a year. The city can assist with a recycling problem at 217-424-2727 once the resident has contacted the hauler first.Official guidance

How do I schedule a bulky pickup in Decatur?

Call the private hauler assigned to the address. Basic residential service includes five bulky waste collections a year with up to five items at each one, and a pickup may include one household appliance such as a refrigerator, oven or dishwasher plus no more than four other items. The city also protects the account: an overage fee for excessive bulky waste needs photographic evidence that the hauler must produce on request.Official guidance
