Choose each piece

A table and four chairs are five items.

You don’t need to guess how much space your furniture fills in a truck. Match each piece to the catalog, then add its quantity. Your total updates as you go.

Tables and chairs

Choose the table, then add each chair separately. Coffee tables, side tables and dining tables have their own options. A large or substantially heavy table has a different choice.

Dressers and mirrors

Match the dresser’s overall size. Add a separate dresser mirror as its own item if it is leaving too. Empty drawers and keep the belongings you want before moving the dresser outside.

Desks and bookshelves

Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Couches, sofas and furniture

Special rules apply

A couch is not named as regular curbside trash, so it falls into the village's oversized pickup, which is the route for oversized or overweight items and for a large amount of refuse or debris exceeding one cubic yard. That pickup is scheduled with Groot and billed by the cubic yard. A small piece that fits the bag rules can still go out beside the toter with the regular collection.

City cost & eligibility
The village publishes no rate for an oversized pickup because Groot gives an estimate and bills by the cubic yard, so confirm the piece and the price with Groot at 847-734-6400 before setting it out. A piece small enough to fit the bag and weight limits goes out at no extra charge beside the toter.
When & how
Call Groot at 847-734-6400 to book the oversized pickup, and hold the piece until the pickup is arranged. For a small piece on the regular route, have it at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day, which is Monday for residences north of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway and Wednesday for residences south of it.
Get it ready
Keep the piece off the curb until the oversized pickup is scheduled, and never set it out before 6 p.m. the night before collection. If the piece goes out with the regular service, keep it within the bag limits of 32 gallons and 50 pounds, keep the toter lid shut, and bag anything loose so it cannot blow away.

Right item.
Right place.

Monday north of the tollway, Wednesday south of it

The village splits collection by the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway. Residences north of it are serviced on Mondays, and residences south of it, including those west of Bartlett Road, are serviced on Wednesdays. Because routes can vary weekly and holidays shift the schedule, the village publishes the service area map and delays collection by one day for the remainder of a holiday week.

Schedule the special pickups with Groot before the item goes out

Three special services have to be arranged in advance. Appliance or white goods pickup is scheduled with Groot and runs on Wednesdays at no additional charge. An oversized pickup for a large item or a load over one cubic yard is scheduled with Groot for an estimate and billed by the cubic yard. Electronics pickups are scheduled at least 24 hours ahead, and Groot takes two items a week at no cost. Nothing is left at the curb before the pickup is arranged.

Village of Hoffman Estates with Groot Industries

Schedule the appliance, electronics and oversized pickups with Groot

A residence with an appliance, two electronic items, a couch, an exercise machine or a load over one cubic yard.

Cost & conditions
Appliance pickup is published at no additional charge when scheduled in advance and runs on Wednesdays, and two electronic items a week are collected at no cost when the pickup is arranged at least 24 hours ahead. The oversized pickup for a large item or a load over one cubic yard is priced by Groot as an estimate and billed by the cubic yard, so confirm the piece and the price at 847-734-6400.
Arrange it
Call Groot at 847-734-6400, and for electronics the line is 800.244.1977. Schedule appliance pickup in advance for the Wednesday run, schedule the electronics pickup at least 24 hours ahead, and arrange the oversized pickup before the load goes out.

Every special pickup has to be arranged before the item is set at the curb, and the oversized rate depends on the cubic yardage of the load rather than a flat item price. A tube television weighing more than 50 pounds carries a charge on the electronics pickup rather than the two free item allowance.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Hoffman Estates is a franchised collection village rather than a drop-off city, so self haul means the special programmes rather than a municipal transfer station. The village points household hazardous waste to the Naperville facility at 156 Fort Hill Drive, next to the Naperville Public Works Service Center, open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with only household waste allowed and no business or medical waste, and the village recommends packaging items safely and carrying them in the trunk, with questions going to 630-420-6095. Electronics are the other self haul route: the seasonal drop-off at Village Hall on 1900 Hassell Road runs on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon on its 2026 dates from April 6 through November 16, free for residents of SWANCC communities with proof of residency, and the agency also runs a weekly collection at the Glenview Transfer Station on 3 Providence Way in Des Plaines on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Village Hall also takes small electronics, printer ink and toner cartridges, CFL and fluorescent light bulbs handed to staff, mercury thermometers and wall thermostats in a sealed bag, and batteries with the terminals taped, year round from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For bulk material the franchise points the other way: all permanent and temporary roll-off dumpsters have to come through Groot, and a container supplied by anyone else can bring a village citation, so a self hauled remodel load is not the route the village publishes. Village household hazardous waste page with the legal bar on putting insecticides and oil based paint in the regular garbage, the Naperville facility at 156 Fort Hill Drive open Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for household waste only with its contact number, the state exemption that lets solidified latex paint and used cooking oil go in the trash because Groot refuses them in liquid form, the medication drop box at the police department on 411 W. Higgins Road and the monthly sharps collectionVillage electronics page with the Illinois landfill ban on televisions, computer monitors and cellphones, the seasonal Village Hall drop-off at 1900 Hassell Road on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon with 2026 dates from April 6 through November 16 free for SWANCC community residents, the named items the seasonal site will not take, the SWANCC weekly collection at the Glenview Transfer Station on 3 Providence Way in Des Plaines on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the Groot two item curbside pickup with the 24 hour scheduling rule and the tube television charge, the daily Village Hall lobby drop-off with bulbs, mercury thermometers, thermostats, cartridges and taped batteries, and the annual August recycling eventVillage special garbage services page with the Groot pre-scheduled appliance pickup at no extra charge, the fee-based large and heavyweight item pickup for amounts over one cubic yard with billing by the cubic yard, the requirement that all roll-off dumpsters come through Groot and the citation that follows another container, the commercial hauling requirement, and the split between Groot billing for special services and village billing for regular service

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Furniture removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Hoffman Estates.

How much does furniture removal cost in Hoffman Estates?

Choose the type and size of each piece to see its price. For example, a medium dresser is $79 as the first item or $29 as an additional item. Your total starts with the highest first-item price in your selection, then uses the additional-item price for every other item. Review the complete total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I get same-day furniture pickup in Hoffman Estates?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup and choose from the dates shown at checkout. Arrange to have the furniture outside according to your confirmation. You receive a text when your hauler is on the way and photos after collection.

Will you remove furniture from inside my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange indoor carrying, including any interior stairs or elevator trip. We load and take away the furniture from an accessible outdoor location. Check your building’s rules and plan the route out before booking.

Can you take several different furniture items in one pickup?

Yes. Add each piece and its quantity to one booking. A dining table and four chairs are five items; a separate mirror is not included with a dresser. You can mix eligible items from different rooms and review their combined total before paying.

Do I need to take furniture apart before pickup?

You arrange any disassembly needed to move the furniture out of your home and into an accessible outdoor pickup spot. Dropcurb does not provide indoor disassembly or carrying. If you are unsure which catalog choice matches a dismantled or unusual piece, send a photo and ask before booking.

How do I get rid of a couch in Hoffman Estates?

Call Groot at 847-734-6400 and arrange an oversized pickup for it. The village routes oversized or overweight items and any large amount of refuse or debris exceeding one cubic yard through Groot, with an estimate first and billing by the cubic yard. A piece small enough to meet the bag rules can go out beside the toter on the regular collection day instead.Official guidance

Who collects garbage in Hoffman Estates?

Groot Industries collects under a village franchise. The village states that its residential agreement with Groot for solid waste and recycling runs through April 30, 2031, and that the same franchise requires all roll-off dumpsters and all commercial hauling to go through Groot. Groot handles service questions and special pickups at 847-734-6400, while the village handles regular billing and service changes at 847-843-4824.Official guidance

What time does the garbage go out?

Materials have to be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the service day, because collection begins then and Groot will not return for toters and bags set out late. Nothing may go out before 6 p.m. the night before collection, and the toter has to be removed by 10 p.m. on the collection day. On non-collection days the toters must be stored behind the front building line.Official guidance

How is a large item pickup billed?

By the cubic yard. The village routes oversized or overweight items and any large amount of refuse or debris exceeding one cubic yard through Groot, which gives an estimate and bills by the cubic yard, and the village names spring cleanup and move-in or move-out rubbish as typical loads. Appliance pickup is different and is published at no additional charge when it is scheduled in advance for the Wednesday run.Official guidance
