Appliances without refrigerant

Special rules apply

Washing machines, dryers, stoves, ovens, dishwashers and water heaters have no published curbside collection here, but they do have two local routes: the Dumpster Days events take most appliances without refrigerant at no charge, and MRC Recycling in Kansas City, Missouri accepts them at its weekday public drop-off.

City cost & eligibility
Appliance routes here are event based or drop-off based, and neither publishes a flat curbside price. Dumpster Days takes most appliances without refrigerant free, and MRC Recycling publishes a per-item charge for some units while recycling most household machines at no charge, so confirm the exact appliance at the counter.
When & how
Take appliances to a Dumpster Days weekend in spring or fall, or to MRC Recycling at 2000 E. 19th St in Kansas City, Missouri, which is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with no appointment needed.
Get it ready
Empty and clean the machine, remove loose parts and tie down cords or hoses. Keep appliances out of the recycling cart, which takes paper, cardboard, cans and plastics, and settle the refrigerant question before choosing a route, because a unit that ever held refrigerant goes on the separate drop-off route rather than to the city event.

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners

Special rules apply

Refrigerant units are the appliance group the city keeps out of its own events. Dumpster Days refuses refrigerators and any item containing refrigerant, so the working route is MRC Recycling in Kansas City, Missouri, which takes refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers for a published per-unit charge.

City cost & eligibility
$10 per refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or dehumidifier at the MRC Recycling public drop-off. Households with a refrigerant appliance. WyCo Dumpster Days refuses refrigerators and any item containing refrigerant, so this drop-off is the documented route rather than the city event.
When & how
Drive the unit to MRC Recycling at 2000 E. 19th St, Kansas City, Missouri, open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with no appointment, and closed most major holidays.
Get it ready
Leave the refrigerant sealed and tell the staff what the appliance is so it is handled correctly. Keep the unit out of the Dumpster Days load, because the city refuses refrigerators and refrigerant items there, and out of the recycling cart at home.

Set carts out by 7 a.m. and keep them light

Kansas City, Kansas collects trash and recycling on the same day each week, and carts can go to the curb no earlier than 4 p.m. the day before and no later than 7 a.m. on the collection day. Each container needs a tight-fitting lid, usable handles for lifting and a weight at or under 50 pounds, and metal barrels are not acceptable. The city asks households to keep the carts clear of vehicles, fences and mailboxes and puts trash and recycling on separate sides of the driveway or walkway so the crew can tell them apart at a glance.

The weekly truck is a cart service, not a bulk pickup

Loose trash is not collected, and the city publishes no standing appointment for a pile at the curb. The rule that does exist for a large item is for a mattress, which goes out wrapped in plastic, and rugs, which go out rolled and tied at no more than 4 feet long and 50 pounds. Loose lumber is treated as construction material and is refused, so the pile that a household clears out of a garage has to go to an event or a hauler rather than to the curb.

Plan bulky removals around the twice-yearly event

WyCo Dumpster Days is the free municipal route for bulky household items, and it runs once in spring and once in fall rather than every week. The 2026 dates are May 1 and 2 and October 2 and 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Indian Springs on 47th and Orville, entered from westbound Orville Avenue. Wyandotte County residents need proof of residency such as a driver's license or utility bill, business and non-profit loads are turned away, and everything between events goes to the MRC Recycling drop-off or a private hauler.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Appliance removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Kansas City.

How much does appliance removal cost in Kansas City?

A full-size household refrigerator is $109 as a single item. A washing machine is $109, and a dryer is $109. Other appliances have their own catalog prices. Choose each item to see your exact total before booking; disposal and recycling costs are included in the item price.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in Kansas City?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.

Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

Where can I take a washer or dryer in Kansas City, Kansas?

The WyCo Dumpster Days events accept most appliances without refrigerant, including general household machines, at no charge for Wyandotte County residents who show proof of residency. MRC Recycling at 2000 E. 19th St in Kansas City, Missouri is the year-round alternative and recycles most household appliances with no fee, so a washer or dryer still has a route between events.Official guidance

What do I do with an old refrigerator in Kansas City, Kansas?

Take it to MRC Recycling at 2000 E. 19th St in Kansas City, Missouri, which accepts refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers for a published per-unit charge at its weekday public drop-off. The city events are not the answer for this one, because Dumpster Days refuses refrigerators and any item containing refrigerant.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Kansas City, Kansas?

Waste Management collects it under a contract with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, managed by the Public Works solid waste team. Trash and recycling run on the same weekly day, the set-out window opens at 4 p.m. the day before until 7 a.m. on collection day, and the 2026 monthly charge for the pair is billed to the household. A building of five or more units is different, because collection there is handled by the property owner or manager rather than by the city contract.Official guidance

What is WyCo Dumpster Days and what does it take?

WyCo Dumpster Days is the Unified Government's free bulky item event for Wyandotte County residents, run once in spring and once in fall at Indian Springs on 47th and Orville. Residents who show proof of residency can bring mattresses, furniture, fixtures, microwaves, general appliances without refrigerant and most electronics, with a per-item charge only on the heavy display types. Refrigerators and any item containing refrigerant are refused, as are tires, yard and storm debris, construction material and business loads.Official guidance

Does the city pick up large items at the curb?

Only in a narrow way. The published curbside rules cover a mattress, which goes out wrapped in plastic, and a rug, which goes out rolled and tied at no more than 4 feet long and 50 pounds. There is no standing curbside appointment for furniture, appliances or a general pile, and loose trash is left at the curb, so those items go to a WyCo Dumpster Days weekend or to a private hauler instead.Official guidance

Where do refrigerators and air conditioners go?

They go to MRC Recycling at 2000 E. 19th St in Kansas City, Missouri, which takes refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers every weekday for a published per-unit charge. The city events are not the answer here, because WyCo Dumpster Days refuses refrigerators and any item containing refrigerant, and the Recycling & Yard Waste Center does not take appliances either.Official guidance
