Special rules apply
An appliance is collected through the Residential Special Item Pick-Up request, and Lawrence requires all food and other contents to be removed before the crew arrives. Small appliances such as toasters and microwaves may legally go in the household trash, and the city also points to recycling for them.
City cost & eligibility
No appliance price is published. The 2026 rate sheet lists a residential special pick-up, late set-out and off-cycle charge of $52.90, and the form says a pile that is excessive or subject to a fee is charged after a supervisor evaluates the site. When & how
Request the collection for your trash day and meet the form deadline. Cooling appliances cannot go in a roll-off container, so they stay on this request.
Get it ready
Empty the appliance of food and any other contents before the crew arrives, or the driver will leave it. Ask the division how a refrigerator or freezer is handled and whether refrigerant recovery has to be arranged before collection.
Lawrence schedules bulky items for your next trash day, and the request has to reach the city by 4 p.m. on the business day before that collection. A request sent later moves to the following week, and no bulky items are collected during a holiday week.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
What has to be done to a refrigerator before pickup?+
