The next Dumpster Days runs October 3 and 4, 2026, and the curbside bulky pickup follows the hauler's own booked or scheduled date.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and load it inside the vehicle rather than on a trailer, because the fee depends on the vehicle type, and note that the separate item fees at the event apply to tires, monitors, televisions and Freon appliances rather than bedding.
The free curbside bulky pickup comes from the hauler, not the city
Lenexa does not collect waste itself, so each household chooses a licensed private hauler. City regulation requires every permitted company to offer one bulky item curbside pickup for large items each year inside the basic collection rate, and while some haulers schedule the date by phone others set collection days for certain areas, with a few charging extra for particular items. Residents who cannot get a pickup scheduled and are not covered by a homeowners association contract can contact the city at awhitaker@lenexa.com.
The city's own bulky drop-off runs two weekends a year at the Municipal Services Service Center, 7700 Cottonwood St., with proof of a current Lenexa address required at the gate. Fees run from 20.00 for a car or minivan with seats through 25.00 for an SUV or minivan without seats, 30.00 for a one axle trailer, 40.00 for a pickup or panel van and 50.00 for a tandem axle truck, trailer or small box truck, up to 75.00 for a large box truck, and payments can be cash, cheque with the licence number written on it, or credit card.
On top of the vehicle load charge, the city prices four items individually at Dumpster Days: 5.00 per tire, 20.00 per computer monitor, 35.00 per television and 75.00 for a white appliance that still contains Freon. Furniture, mattresses, lamps, light fixtures, ballasts, lawn mowers, smoke detectors, styrofoam, cardboard and yard waste ride the vehicle fee instead.

No charge. One bulky item curbside pickup a year is included in the basic collection rate of every licensed Lenexa hauler under city regulation, although individual haulers may charge extra for certain items.
