Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

No charge. Lafayette Parish residences served by the weekly hauler route, where bulky waste is collected once a week on the same day as garbage, recycling and yard waste, with no separate bulky item fee published on the City pages.
When & how
Every week on the same collection day as the other curbside streams, with the item at the curb before the service date. No appointment or phone call is required for the standard bulky pickup.
Get it ready
Place each item at least three feet from carts, mailboxes, yard waste piles and parked cars, keep overhead trees and utility lines clear above it, and leave the collection truck a clear path to it. Automobile tires are limited to five per week and to residential use. Bagged items, anything small enough for the cart, construction and remodeling debris including toilets, fencing in wood, plastic or metal, and hazardous waste do not belong in the bulky pile.
Garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky waste are all collected on the same day, once a week, so the work is in separating them before the truck arrives. Household waste goes in the black and red cart with the lid closed, yard waste goes out bagged or in a 40 gallon can under 50 pounds, and bulky items wait at the curb. Bagged garbage and anything that fits in the cart never belong in the bulky pile.
Bulky items go to the curb before the service date at least three feet from carts, mailboxes, yard waste piles and parked cars, with no overhead trees or utility lines above them and nothing blocking the way in. An item the crew cannot reach may be left behind.
The hauler does not operate on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas. A collection that falls on one of those days moves to the next day, and the rest of that week's routes move back a day as well, so the usual collection day shifts for the remainder of the week.
The Environmental Quality Convenience Center at 400 Dugas Road is under construction, and the City states that the accepted materials and procedures may change before it opens. Once open it would take garbage, bulky waste, construction debris, scrap metal, recycling material, electronics, tires and other residential waste from City of Lafayette and unincorporated parish residents at no charge, with published limits and a fee for residents from outside those areas.

The City and the hauler describe the weekly service without publishing a monthly rate, because it is billed to the account, so confirm the charge through Lafayette Utilities System on 337-291-8280 inside the city limits or the hauler on 337-205-7710 in the unincorporated parish.
Arrange it
Set the four streams out separately on the collection day, keep household waste in the assigned cart with the lid closed, and report a missed pickup through Lafayette 311.
Bulky pickup refuses bagged items, construction and remodeling debris, fencing and hazardous waste, and curbside recycling is available to city residents only even though the rest of the service covers the parish.

The City publishes no rate for either option because it does not collect the material, so confirm the container price with the rental company or the load price with the landfill, and call the Environmental Quality Division on 337-291-8529 for landfill locations.
Arrange it
Rent a container or load the material for the construction and demolition landfill, and separate out anything the facility will not take.
Construction debris, repair and demolition material, toilets and fencing are excluded from curbside collection, and the City recommends making a contractor responsible for removing the waste from work that is hired out.
Garbage, bulky waste, construction debris, scrap metal, recycling material in metal, paper, plastic and glass, electronics, tires and other residential solid waste, according to the City's description of what residents can expect once the center opens.
The center is under construction and the City states that accepted materials and operating procedures may change before it opens, so nothing should be taken there yet. As planned, it would be for residential use only with no commercial waste, card payment only for non residential drop offs and no cash, residency verification at check in, and a limit of two visits a day and two days within a seven day period, with loads secured and covered in transport and residents unloading their own material.
Planned hours once open are Wednesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday. These are future hours, not current ones.
No charge. As planned, residents of the City of Lafayette and of unincorporated Lafayette Parish would use the center at no charge by presenting a valid driver's license and having active garbage service within the consolidated government's jurisdiction, while residents from outside those areas would pay a published per vehicle fee that is higher for a vehicle with a trailer.
