Metal appliances such as washers, dryers, stoves and water heaters are ordinary metal items, while refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers are priced as Freon items.
City cost & eligibility
From $12 per metal item at the curb, with metal items free to drop off at the Recycling Drop-Off Center and Freon items charged at their own higher rate. Framingham household scheduling the pickup, or a resident with a current drop-off permit; the curbside service fee applies to every scheduled item.

Metal items are collected curbside on Wednesday, and the drop-off center takes them from permitted residents during its published hours.
Get it ready
Remove the doors from a refrigerator or freezer before it goes outside, as Massachusetts law requires. Empty and clean the unit, and remove oil and gas from a mower that is going out as metal.
Framingham collects bulky items only by appointment and only after payment. Schedule through the city permitting portal or at the Operations Center or drop-off center, pay by cash, check or online, and put the tagged item at the curb by 7 a.m. on the assigned day because staff cannot enter private property.
Soft goods such as couches go out on Tuesday, and metal items, mattresses, televisions, Freon appliances, carpets and tires go out on Wednesday. Setting a category out on the wrong day means the crew will not take it.
The Recycling Drop-Off Center on Mount Wayte Avenue is open only to permitted residents and eligible businesses, closes on holidays, and takes cash or check only. Permits run from July 1 to June 30 and a vehicle must display the sticker to enter.
