You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.

Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

The Department of Public Works hosts bulk waste item drop-off days through the year, and the city states that bulk waste disposal is free only on those days. They run at 247 Commercial Street from 8 a.m. to noon, and the 2026 dates are marked on the collection and disposal calendar.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free for a Lynn resident who brings the material to a scheduled bulk waste item drop-off day at 247 Commercial Street between 8 a.m. and noon, with a driver's licence or state identification. The days are open to Lynn residents only, U-Haul trucks and commercial vehicles are prohibited, and vehicles have to enter through Circle Avenue behind the car wash and Garelick Farms. A curbside bulk pickup on any other day is a fee-based service instead.
When & how
The 2026 drop-off days are January 10, April 18, May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 19, October 10 and November 7, all from 8 a.m. to noon. Bring a driver's licence or state identification, because the days are open to Lynn residents only.
Get it ready
Sort the load before arrival, because paint, mattresses, hazardous materials, building contractors' construction materials, propane tanks and televisions are all refused at these days even though unwanted household items, fluorescent lightbulbs, white goods, metal items and rigid plastic items are accepted. Leave a U-Haul or a commercial vehicle at home and enter through Circle Avenue.
The city also collects bulky items at the curb, but not as part of the base collection fee. The FAQ states that bulky item and mattress collection were left out of the base fee and that a resident who wants to avoid the fee can use a bulky item day instead, which means a curbside bulky pickup is a booked, chargeable service.
City cost & eligibility
The city states that bulky item collection is not included in the base fee but does not publish the curbside rate, so confirm the charge and the pickup date with the Department of Public Works at (781) 477-7099 or (781) 268-8000 before anything goes to the curb.
When & how
Book the pickup with the Department of Public Works rather than setting the item out on an ordinary collection day, and put it out only for the date the department gives you.
Get it ready
Describe the item when the pickup is booked, keep it clear of the carts so the collection crew can reach it, and remember that paint, mattresses, hazardous materials, construction material, propane tanks and televisions are refused at the free bulky item days and follow their own routes.
Furniture is an unwanted household item, which is the first category on the bulk day accepted list, so a couch or a sofa can be brought to a scheduled bulky waste item drop-off day for nothing. A resident who wants the piece collected at the curb instead books a fee-based bulky item pickup with the Department of Public Works.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free for a Lynn resident who brings the piece to a scheduled bulky waste item drop-off day at 247 Commercial Street between 8 a.m. and noon and shows a driver's licence or state identification. U-Haul trucks and commercial vehicles are prohibited, and a curbside collection booked with the Department of Public Works is a separate chargeable service.
When & how
Take the piece to one of the published Saturdays at 247 Commercial Street, or book a curbside pickup with the Department of Public Works for a date the department gives you.
Get it ready
Keep the piece whole and liftable, and leave paint, hazardous material, construction material, propane tanks, televisions and mattresses out of the load, because every one of those is refused at the bulky item days. Enter the site through Circle Avenue with a passenger vehicle.
Lynn requires an appointment for a mattress or box spring, booked through Tough Stuff Recycling, and the city publishes three prices for the same item depending on how it moves: a per pickup curbside rate through the contractor, a lower drop-off rate at the contractor's own site, and a third rate for dropping the unit at the Department of Public Works.
City cost & eligibility
$65 per mattress for a curbside pickup booked through Tough Stuff Recycling, with a $25 drop-off rate at Tough Stuff Recycling on Authority Drive in Fitchburg and a $35 drop-off rate at the Department of Public Works. A Lynn household booking an appointment for a mattress or box spring. The curbside service requires the appointment, the Department of Public Works drop-off is for Lynn residents with identification, and the drop-off schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
When & how
Book the appointment with Tough Stuff Recycling for a curbside pickup, or bring the unit to the Department of Public Works during the weekday drop-off window. Mattresses are no longer accepted at the bulky item days and the city states that all mattresses must be recycled under the Massachusetts DEP rule.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and clean for recycling, and keep it off the street rather than at the curb outside an appointment, because the city requires the appointment and refused mattresses at the bulky item days from November 1, 2022.
The city describes white goods as major household electrical appliances and names freezers, refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, water heaters, air conditioners and microwaves in the recycling programme it runs with Turner Inc. White goods are also on the accepted list for the bulky waste item drop-off days.
City cost & eligibility
The white goods page describes the recycling partnership and the bulky item day page lists white goods among the accepted items, which are free for a Lynn resident on a scheduled drop-off day, but no per appliance rate or pickup booking route is published, so confirm the arrangement and any charge with the Department of Public Works at (781) 477-7099 or (781) 268-8000.
When & how
Bring the appliance to a scheduled bulky waste item drop-off day at 247 Commercial Street from 8 a.m. to noon, and confirm the recycling partnership route with the Department of Public Works if a household needs the unit collected rather than dropped off.
Get it ready
Empty the unit and keep it off the street. The city states that large appliances including refrigerators, freezers, washer dryers, dishwashers, stoves, water heaters, air conditioners and dehumidifiers are banned from disposal in Massachusetts, and that placing an air conditioner or another large appliance on a Lynn curb or city street is an illegal disposal that Inspectional Services can penalize with a large fine.
Bring the load to 247 Commercial Street on a published Saturday between 8 a.m. and noon, with a driver's licence or state identification, in a passenger vehicle, entering through Circle Avenue behind the car wash and Garelick Farms. Unwanted household items, white goods, metal items, rigid plastic items and fluorescent lightbulbs are accepted, while paint, mattresses, hazardous materials, construction material, propane tanks and televisions are refused.
Televisions, computer monitors and propane tanks are dropped at 250 Commercial Street during the weekday window, and the city charges for them. Mattress recycling is also available at that address for a published rate, which is one of three prices the city posts for the same mattress. Drop-offs are for Lynn residents only and a driver's licence is required.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Drop-offs are for Lynn residents only and a driver's licence is required as identification. The counter is a hand-over and payment point rather than a general dump: paint, hazardous materials, building contractors' construction materials and construction waste are refused, and a household with a computer, laptop or printer rather than a screen has to confirm the route by phone first.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?+

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
