City cost & eligibility
From $5 for the published Drop-Off Station appliance prices, which start with a microwave and rise through a dishwasher and other appliances, with freon appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers charged at their own higher per unit rate. Residents and businesses bringing appliances to the Drop-Off Station or the Recovery Yard. The city notes that freon removal is provided for a fee at the Drop-Off Station, and the gate fee applies as well.
When & how
Drop off during posted hours at a Recycle Ann Arbor site. Appliances are not collected in the trash cart or at the curb on any day.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, remove the doors from a refrigerator or freezer, and declare a freon appliance at the gatehouse because it is priced separately. Ask the gatehouse about any unit that still holds refrigerant before unloading it, since removal is a paid service rather than something the city does at the curb.
The city states that large items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances left at the curb will not be collected and can draw a fine, and that televisions, computers and other electronics and appliances containing freon are not cart material either. Those loads go instead to the Recycle Ann Arbor Drop-Off Station on East Ellsworth Road or to the Recovery Yard on Jackson Road.
The city pass that waives the Drop-Off Station gate fee
Ann Arbor residents can apply online at the city stream portal for a pass that waives the three dollar gate entry fee at the Drop-Off Station, with proof of residency required and commercial users excluded. The pass covers the entry fee only, so the per item disposal charges for large items and hard-to-recycle materials still apply, and the site takes credit card only.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Apply for the city Drop-Off Station pass
An Ann Arbor resident who regularly brings large items or hard-to-recycle material to the Drop-Off Station.
Cost & conditions
No charge. The pass is free to Ann Arbor residents with proof of residency and waives the three dollar gate entry fee, while the per item disposal fees for large items and hard-to-recycle materials still apply. Commercial users are not eligible.
Arrange it
Apply online through the city stream portal, search for the recycle or drop off application, create an account, and use the pass emailed after approval on each visit.
The pass covers the entry fee only, so the hard-to-recycle fee and every per item charge are still collected at the gatehouse, and payment is by credit card only.

Washtenaw County cleanup day
A county resident with electronics, household hazardous waste, bulky waste, appliances or scrap tires who can wait for an event day.
Cost & conditions
The city lists the cleanup days and their hours but publishes no entry price, and registration is required, so confirm the location, the registration window and any charge with Washtenaw County before the event.
Arrange it
Register ahead for one of the events at a county location, then arrive with the load between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the event day.
Materials from businesses, government agencies, non profits and other organisations are not accepted, and each event location takes a set list of material, so the registration page has to be checked for what is accepted that day.

Traditional recycling in mixed paper and boxboard, cardboard, plastic bottles, tubs and containers numbered one, two and five, metal cans and scrap metal, glass bottles and jars, shredded paper and textiles and shoes up to three bags, plus hard-to-recycle material including motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters, vegetable oil, polystyrene foam and plastic bags, and separately priced items such as electronics, monitors, televisions, appliances, furniture, mattresses and box springs, tires, bulbs, empty fire extinguishers, lead acid car batteries, propane tanks, clean wood, pallets, shingles, tile, yard waste and small construction quantities.
The station refuses alkaline, lithium and other rechargeable batteries, damaged batteries, asbestos, asphalt, brick, blocks and granite, concrete, deceased animals, fertilizer, food and household solid waste, liquids other than motor oil and vegetable oil, paints and varnish, root systems, sod, soil, sand, stumps and logs over eight inches wide, toxics and plastics numbered three, four, six and seven. It is self service, children under 13 and pets stay in the vehicle, and payment is by credit card only. In the winter months scrap metal, general waste, bulky waste, furniture and yard waste are not accepted after 5 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed Monday, Wednesday and Sunday.
From $3 for the per day residential gate fee, with a large volume gate fee, a published hard-to-recycle fee for the materials on that list and separate per item prices for electronics, appliances, furniture, mattresses, tires, fluids, wood, shingles, tile and yard waste. Residents and businesses, with Ann Arbor residents able to waive the gate fee through the city pass while the disposal fees still apply. Credit card is the only accepted payment.
Heavy construction and demolition debris, treated wood, pianos, furniture, mattresses and box springs, railroad ties, brick, blocks, tile, garden blocks and other general waste, with recycling of clean wood, clean concrete, metal, cardboard, mixed paper, plastic bottles, tubs and containers numbered one, two and five, cans and glass.
Asbestos containing material and asphalt are refused, municipal waste is not accepted, clean concrete has to be unpainted and free of trash, tile and brick, clean wood has to be untreated with no paint, stain, particle board or plywood, and an overfilled container is not serviced and carries a wasted trip charge.

From $3 for the per day general recycling gate fee for a standard vehicle, with a large vehicle gate fee, forty dollars a cubic yard for heavy construction debris, thirty two dollars a cubic yard for clean wood, forty dollars a cubic yard for clean concrete and separate per item rates for tires, propane tanks, dishwashers, microwaves and freon appliances. Residents, contractors and commercial haulers, with credit card as the only accepted payment and commercial loads advised to call ahead about capacity.

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.
Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?+
Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.
Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
What happens with a refrigerator or air conditioner?+
A freon appliance, which the price list defines as a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or dehumidifier, is charged at its own per unit rate, and the city says freon removal is provided for a fee at the Drop-Off Station. The unit is not collected at the curb.Official guidance
