Dishwashers, washing machines and stoves are on the bulk accepted list. Anything that still contains refrigerant is refused, and a refrigerator only qualifies if the doors are removed and a licensed technician has certified the Freon is gone. A working refrigerator, freezer, room air conditioner or dehumidifier can go to the DTE recycling pickup instead.
City cost & eligibility
Confirm the appliance with the hauler before the pickup day. The DTE appliance recycling pickup costs nothing and pays a gift card instead, and it removes an eligible unit from the curb route entirely.
When & how
Set an accepted appliance out with the bulk items on your trash day, or book the separate DTE pickup for a cooling appliance.
Get it ready
Empty and defrost a cooling appliance, disconnect the water line and take the doors off a refrigerator. If the unit is not going to DTE, get a licensed refrigeration technician to remove the Freon and tag the appliance before it goes outside.
Out after 7 p.m. the night before, or before 7 a.m.
Trash, yard waste and bulk items all follow the same window: nothing goes to the curb before 7 p.m. the night before collection, and everything needs to be out by 7 a.m. on the collection morning. Special pickup items wait until after 7 p.m. the night before, the cart has to stand clear of cars, bags, totes, other carts, mailboxes and poles, and bulk items stay at least 3 feet from the cart.

No charge. Two items are collected on the bulk day that falls on your trash day as part of the city curbside contract. Anything above the two item limit is the resident's cost, and the city's older bulk guide, published when the previous contractor held the work, listed a charge for each extra item.

Check the city's route map to confirm the address is on the municipal collection route, then set the items out in the 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. window on the collection day, at least 3 feet from the cart. Two items only, no Freon appliances, no oil or gas equipment, no automotive parts, no construction items and no extra trash. Bulk items do not include televisions, computers or other electronics.

$50 for gift card for a refrigerator or freezer of 10 to 30 cubic feet, with an additional $20 for a small fridge or freezer, a room air conditioner or a dehumidifier removed at the same visit and $20 for a small unit under 9.9 cubic feet. Current DTE Residential Electric customer. The unit has to be clean, empty, defrosted, working and free of cut cords, an adult 18 or older must be present, and the programme allows two visits per site each calendar year, each limited to two large and two small appliances.

From $3 per tire at the spring landfill days, with the household load itself free when it fits the published rules. Pontiac residents with proof of residency, loads no larger than 3 cubic yards, cars, SUVs and pickup trucks only, no dump trucks, commercial haulers or trailer loads. Children stay inside the vehicle and the resident unloads the load.
Arrange it
Drive to the Transfer Station at 575 Collier Road between 7 a.m. and noon on a landfill day Saturday, show proof of residency, and unload the material yourself.
Yard waste, concrete, asphalt, stones, earth, logs, stumps, branches, large car parts, gas tanks, batteries, propane tanks and hazardous liquids such as paint, fuel, chemicals and cleaners are excluded. The published 2026 dates have passed, so confirm the current season before loading.
Pontiac's own drop-off windows both sit inside the city. The spring landfill days at the Transfer Station on 575 Collier Road run 7 a.m. to noon on selected Saturdays for residents with proof of residency, taking furniture, carpet, wood and demolition items, appliances without Freon and tires at $3 each inside a 3 cubic yard limit, with no trailers or commercial vehicles. Household recyclables go to the City Hall auxiliary parking lot, where the gates are open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the accepted list is paper, cardboard, plastics marked #1 or #2, glass bottles and jars and metal cans. Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
Can a refrigerator go out with Pontiac bulk pickup?+

Start with the property manager, because the city curbside programme runs on the municipal collection route and a shared building may arrange its own service.
