Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?
Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.
An exercise bike, elliptical or rower
Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.
Weights, racks and benches
Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Exercise equipment is named in no city or county list. A treadmill or weight machine behaves like the household furniture and junk the bulk route takes, so the practical test is whether the piece can be lifted safely at the curb.
City cost & eligibility
No exercise machine rate exists, because the category is unnamed, and the curbside bulk collection is part of the contracted residential service. If the machine is too heavy or too large to be handled at the curb, confirm the alternative with Republic Services at 269-216-8008 or a private hauler before moving it.
When & how
Put the machine at the curb by 6 a.m. on your regular trash day with the other bulk items, or hold it for one of the cleanup weeks if the pile is larger. Anything that cannot be lifted at the curb needs its own arrangement.
Get it ready
Strip the machine down as far as it will come apart, remove the console and any battery pack, and take the weight plates off where that makes the frame manageable. Keep it out of the recycling cart, which takes loose bottles, cans, paper and cardboard only.
Battle Creek asks for garbage, recycling, bulk items and yard waste at the curb by 6 a.m. on the collection day, and the bins can go out after 1 p.m. the day before. Bins come back in by 9 a.m. the day after pickup and may not be stored in the front yard, under ordinances 1064.23, 1064.26 and 1064.27. No container may weigh more than 50 pounds or be longer than 4 feet, and needles, oil, paint, turpentine and batteries never go in a container. Trash, recycling, bulk items and yard waste can arrive on different trucks at different times, so an early truck is not a missed pickup.
Bulk items are weekly, and two conditions decide them
The bulk item collection runs weekly on your regular trash day, and the whole list depends on two conditions. First, the item has to be safely liftable at the curb. Second, an appliance needs its doors removed, and a refrigerator or air conditioner needs its refrigerant removed by a licensed technician who tags the unit, because the hauler states that an untagged unit will not be picked up. A wrapped mattress and dry household furniture meet the test as they are.
The spring cleanup runs the week of May 18 to 22, 2026 and the fall cleanup runs the week of September 14 to 18, 2026. Material is bagged and placed neatly at the curb for collection on your regular trash day during that week, and the cleanup is open only to homes inside the City of Battle Creek. The accepted list adds household doors and windows, carpet and bundled brush, toys, packaging and miscellaneous junk to the usual furniture and wrapped mattresses. Refrigerant appliances, electronics, televisions, tires, batteries, oil, chemicals, concrete, shingles and iron or cast iron bathtubs are turned away, and trailers are not allowed.
