Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and renovation debris

Not on the regular city route

The city's two lists disagree about small renovation quantities. The accepted list takes them item by item with published limits, while the not acceptable list refuses the same material by category, so anything beyond a small, correctly sized load has to go to a private hauler.

City cost & eligibility
No separate municipal rate is published for renovation material: small quantities that meet the published limits go out with the regular collection, while the same material is refused by category and a larger load needs a private hauler or contractor, so confirm the specific load with the Division of Public Works at 248-871-2850 before it goes out.
When & how
There is no municipal collection day for this material.
Get it ready
Keep a load inside the published limits: bagged drywall to 30 pounds a bag, subfloor and particle board and plywood in 4 by 4 sections that are stacked with no nails, lumber in 4 foot lengths bundled to 50 pounds, doors and door frames, kitchen cabinets and countertops in sections no longer than 4 feet, ceiling tiles bagged to 40 pounds, insulation, toilets, sinks, bathtubs and windows. Sheet rock, subfloor, building materials, construction debris, concrete, cement, bricks, dirt, gravel, sand, siding, shingles and roofing materials, ceramic tile, clay, masonry and tree stumps are on the not acceptable list, and logs over six inches in diameter and tree stumps are refused even as bulky or yard waste, so keep demolition material out of the weekly set-out and confirm the load first.
City trash page with the Priority Waste contract for refuse, recycling, bulk items and yard waste, the general fund and tax bill funding split, the set-out and container timing, the 2026 yard waste season and disposal options, the alphabetic accepted and not accepted item list, the bulk item definition including mattresses, box springs and appliances with doors removed, the bed bug wrapping rule and the free compost offer

The refused list is long and specific

The city publishes an alphabetic accepted and not acceptable list, and the two halves collide on renovation material. The accepted list takes small quantities with published limits: bagged drywall to 30 pounds a bag, subfloor and particle board and plywood in 4 by 4 sections stacked with no nails, lumber in 4 foot lengths bundled to 50 pounds, doors and door frames, kitchen cabinets and countertops in sections of 4 feet or less, ceiling tiles bagged to 40 pounds, insulation, toilets, sinks, bathtubs and windows. The not acceptable list refuses construction debris, building materials, concrete, cement, bricks, dirt, gravel, sand, sheet rock, siding, shingles and roofing materials, ceramic tile, clay, masonry, subfloor and tree stumps, and the city classes laminate flooring as construction material that may be put out in small amounts. Confirm the load with the Division of Public Works at 248-871-2850 before it goes out. Tires are refused with a note pointing to a tire retailer, and automotive parts and car, truck, motorcycle and snowmobile parts go to a scrap metal dealer or salvage yard instead. Pianos, riding lawnmowers, logs over six inches in diameter, asbestos, asphalt, drums, hot ashes, kilns, metal pressure tanks, ironing boards, rocks and boulders are also refused.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Farmington Hills keeps almost everything inside its own weekly collection, so the first answer for a couch, a mattress, a refrigerator or a treadmill is the curb rather than a trip. The city contracts with Priority Waste for refuse, recycling, bulk item pickup and yard waste, bulk items are collected on the regular collection day with no call in advance, and the definition covers large furniture, bed springs, mattresses and box springs, a refrigerator or freezer with the doors removed, a stove and similar household items. Cans, bags and bundles go out no earlier than 6:00 PM the day before and everything has to be at the curb by 7:00 AM because collection runs from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and the timing varies week to week, and containers must be between 10 and 35 gallons with a combined weight under 60 pounds. Yard waste follows a season that runs from the week of April 6 to the week of December 14 in 2026 and takes brown paper bags, a 35 gallon can with a free sticker from City Hall or the DPW, or bundles of limbs up to six inches across, four feet long and 60 pounds, and Christmas trees ride the regular trash until the end of January. What the city will not take is where a trip becomes necessary: construction debris, building materials, concrete, dirt, bricks, sheet rock, siding, shingles, ceramic tile, masonry, tree stumps, pianos and tires are all refused, with tires pointed at a retailer and vehicle parts at a scrap metal dealer or salvage yard. Household chemicals and used computer equipment go to the annual co-sponsored hazardous materials drop-off day at Oakland Community College's Orchard Ridge Campus on 27055 Orchard Lake Road, and Farmington Hills residents can also use any RRRASOC region-wide event or the authority's ERG site at 13040 Merriman Road in Livonia, where RRRASOC residents may drop hazardous waste on non-event days without a fee. Recyclables can be dropped unsorted at the RRRASOC materials recovery facility at 20000 W. Eight Mile Road in Southfield or at the Novi site, both free and open to the public seven days a week during daylight hours, with foam, hazardous waste and electronics excluded from those sites, and free compost is available to residents at the Dog Park property on Shiawassee Road. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Farmington Hills.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Farmington Hills?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Farmington Hills?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Will the city take construction debris?

Only small, correctly sized quantities. The accepted list takes bagged drywall to 30 pounds a bag, subfloor and particle board and plywood in 4 by 4 sections, lumber in 4 foot bundles to 50 pounds, doors and door frames, kitchen cabinets and countertops in short sections, ceiling tiles bagged to 40 pounds, insulation, toilets, sinks, bathtubs and windows. The not acceptable list refuses sheet rock, subfloor, building materials, construction debris, concrete, cement, bricks, dirt, gravel, sand, siding, shingles and roofing materials, ceramic tile, clay, masonry and tree stumps, and the city classes laminate flooring as construction material that may be put out in small amounts. Because the two lists disagree, confirm the specific load with the Division of Public Works at 248-871-2850 before it goes out.Official guidance
