The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Portage works with a single hauler, WM, for curbside collection: weekly trash, every-other-week recycling and seasonal yard waste. Recycling is funded by a voter-approved millage rather than a separate bill, while trash and yard waste arrive as WM bills. Since March 1, 2026 residents can also schedule one curbside bulk item each week at no additional fee, and once a year the City runs a Spring Cleanup collection that takes furniture, appliances, mattresses and bagged household items from the curb.
