Portage residents have two established drop-off routes. Chemicals, paint, batteries and electronics go to the Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste Center at 1301 Lamont Ave. in Kalamazoo by appointment, at no charge for County residents except Climax Township. Brush and leaves are accepted at the City compost facility at 10905 Oakland Drive on announced drop-off days. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Appliance removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Portage.

How much does appliance removal cost in Portage?

A full-size household refrigerator is $109 as a single item. A washing machine is $109, and a dryer is $109. Other appliances have their own catalog prices. Choose each item to see your exact total before booking; disposal and recycling costs are included in the item price.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in Portage?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.

Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

Are washers, dryers and stoves collected at the curb?

Yes. Spring Cleanup lists appliances including washers, dryers, stoves and water heaters, and the weekly bulk item pickup can take one appliance at a time.Official guidance

Will the City take a refrigerator or an air conditioner at the curb?

No. Refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers are excluded from Spring Cleanup and from the household trash cart. The City pages do not name a curbside route for them, so call the Department of Public Works at (269) 329-4444 to confirm where they can go.Official guidance

Who collects trash and recycling in Portage?

The City contracts with WM for weekly trash and every-other-week recycling. Trash is billed quarterly to residents by WM, and recycling is paid for through property taxes under a voter-approved millage.Official guidance

Where do I take items Portage will not collect?

Tires, construction and demolition debris, large auto parts, paint and chemicals cannot go in the cart and are not part of Spring Cleanup. The Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste Center takes chemicals and electronics by appointment, and for the remaining items confirm the current route with the Department of Public Works at (269) 329-4444.Official guidance
