Royal Oak contracts refuse, recycling, yard waste and bulk collection to Priority Waste and pays for it through taxes, so most bulky household items are collected at the curb once a week. Appliances and large metal ride a separate truck the same day, mattresses must be wrapped in plastic, and excluded material such as concrete, tires and construction debris has to go to the regional authority or a private route.

Woody material under two inches goes in the containers, branches from two to five inches are cut into four foot lengths and bundled under 40 pounds and 15 inches in diameter, and logs over five inches are not collected. Yard waste can never be mixed with trash.

Recycling drop-off, household hazardous waste, electronics, paper shredding and styrofoam recycling at one location. Electronics include computer monitors, CPUs, televisions without wooden cabinets, radios, telephones, routers, cell phones, copiers, scanners, stereos, video game systems and disc players. Household hazardous waste includes oil based paint, pesticides, motor oil, yard chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, syringes in rigid containers and propane tanks.
Appointment only, and only for residents of the twelve member communities, verified by an attendant; residents of two neighboring cities may use it after buying a voucher. One appointment covers multiple tasks. No access after 3 p.m. Sensitive information must be removed from all devices. Household hazardous waste containers are not returned. Attendants only help with items under 40 pounds, so bring assistance for heavy items.
Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Closed New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
