Couches, chairs, tables, shelves, bed frames and rugs in dry, good condition can go out with the monthly bulky pickup, and unusable furniture is collected at the curb during the even-year Curbside Cleanup. The annual recycling drop-off event does not take furniture.

The monthly pickup carries no separate charge because it is included in the monthly Bulky Item Management Fee on the residential utility bill. Curbside Cleanup is part of the same program in even years, and the annual drop-off event refuses furniture.

Schedule with Better Futures Minnesota by 4 p.m. at least two business days before your pickup day by calling 612-353-5400 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or booking online. Items are collected the first full week of each month on your regular garbage and recycling day, and everything must be at the curb by 7 a.m.
Get it ready
Keep the item dry, because wet items are not collected, and cover it with a tarp when rain or snow is expected. Furniture must be free of rips, stains, scratches, strong odors and pet hair. Reclining or powered seating, glass topped tables and shelves, entertainment centers built for tube televisions, and headboards, footboards or wooden bed rails are not accepted.
Schedule with Better Futures Minnesota before 4 p.m. at least two business days ahead, then put the items at the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular garbage and recycling day during the first full week of the month. Everything must be dry, and items should be covered with a tarp when rain or snow is expected. Better Futures opens the cover to inspect and leaves the tarp behind.
In an even-numbered year, put materials out no more than two days before your district Saturday and by 7 a.m. on the day itself. Weight cannot exceed 100 pounds per item and the truck passes only once, so anything left behind stays at the curb. Remove or tie shut appliance doors, drain engines, and break items down so one person can handle them.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Reusable and recyclable household items, including furniture in good condition, mattresses and box springs, appliances, bicycles, grills, cabinets, doors, windows, light fixtures, scrap metal, tools and up to 50 cubic feet of building materials.

Appliances, mattresses and box springs, unusable furniture, carpet, and other bulky items that do not fit a small garbage cart, collected at the curb on an assigned Saturday.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Households that pay the Bulky Item Management Fee on the city utility bill. Apartments and some town homes may not be included, so check with the property manager or the city first. Materials left behind after the single truck pass are the household's responsibility.
Arrange it
Curbside Cleanup runs every other year, in even-numbered years only, on five assigned Saturdays by hauling district. It ran in April 2026 and the city lists the next Curbside Cleanup as 2028.
Limits of two appliances, two mattresses or box springs and two unusable furniture items per household, four other bulky items, and construction and demolition material limited to one level standard pickup truck load. Electronics, tires, batteries, hazardous waste, plumbing fixtures, small items and yard waste are refused.
Furniture and household goods in good condition that a local charity can pass on to another household instead of landfilling.
Cost & conditions
Dropping items off at a staffed donation site is free, and some charitable organizations in and around Bloomington charge a fee to collect items from your home. Ask the organization about both before you load or schedule.
Arrange it
The city lists Arc's Value Village at 10546 France Ave S, Bridging at 201 W. 87th Street, Goodwill at 7845 Lyndale Ave S and Salvation Army at 710 W. 98th Street among local donation outlets, and says some organizations pick up from your house for a fee.
Each organization sets its own acceptance rules and condition standards, so confirm that your item is wanted before you drive or book a pickup. The city asks residents to check the organization's website and call ahead.

Can you pick up my couch today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the couch outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We send pickup updates and photos when it is done; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
How do I book a sectional for removal?+
Open Sectional in the sofa choices, count its structural sections, and select any sleeper or reclining feature. Count the sections with their own bases, not loose cushions. The matching catalog choice covers one complete sectional of that configuration. Text a photo before booking if you are unsure.
Will you carry my couch out of my apartment?+
Dropcurb starts outside. Arrange for the sofa to be moved through the apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load and haul it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Arrange any dismantling needed to get it outside beforehand.
Do I need to wait at home for couch pickup?+
You do not need to be home when your booked sofa is outside and accessible. Add photos and pickup-location notes to your order so the right pieces are easy to identify. We send updates and completion photos. Confirm any building access restrictions with us before booking.
Can I put a couch out for the monthly bulky pickup?+
Yes. Couches 90 inches or shorter are collected at the curb when they are dry and in good condition, and the pickup is already covered by the monthly Bulky Item Management Fee.
