Mattresses and box springs cannot go in the curbside carts and are not accepted at the Dakota County Recycling Zone. Use your hauler, a transfer station, or the Dakota Valley Recycling drop-off event, and donate a reusable mattress instead.
City cost & eligibility
Dakota Area Transfer publishes a 2026 rate of $30 for a mattress or box spring of any size, and the DVR summer drop-off event charges $20 per piece. Haulers set their own price, and a mattress that is still clean and reusable can be donated.
When & how
Ask your hauler for a one-time pickup, bring the mattress to a transfer station during public drop-off hours, or watch the Dakota Valley Recycling events page for the annual June drop-off.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress clean and dry and remove bedding and bed frames. Confirm whether the receiving site charges separately for the mattress and the box spring, and keep both out of the curbside carts.
Eagan lets trash and recycling containers sit at the curb or collection point from 6 p.m. the night before collection until 6 a.m. on collection day, and asks that containers stay out of sight from the street at all other times. A one-time large-item pickup follows the hauler's own directions, so confirm the spot and the timing when you schedule it.
For a transfer station or the Recycling Zone, load the items yourself and check the current hours before you leave. At the Recycling Zone, stay in the vehicle and keep everything except sharps in the trunk or the very back so staff can unload it, and have proof of residency ready. Facilities price a load by item, weight or vehicle type, so ask before you drive.

Eagan households with appliances, mattresses, box springs, exercise equipment, scrap metal or electronics, including screens.
Cost & conditions
The published 2026 event charged per item: appliances $5 each with water softeners at $30, power equipment and exercise equipment $10 each, scrap metal $5 per load, televisions and monitors $25 to $45 by size, other electronics $10 each, and mattresses or box springs $20 per piece. Laptops, towers, phones and tablets were free. Confirm the current event prices.
Arrange it
Eagan is one of the four cities Dakota Valley Recycling serves, so residents can use its events. Check the collection and swap events page for the current date, time and location, then load one vehicle and stay in it on arrival.
It is a one-day event rather than a year-round route. The published drop-off did not accept furniture including futons, air mattresses, tires, batteries or construction material.
Eagan collects no garbage of its own, so a self-haul trip is a normal route for a large item. The Dakota County Recycling Zone at 3365 Dodd Road in Eagan takes electronics, tires and household hazardous waste, but it does not take appliances, furniture, mattresses or exercise equipment. For those, use a transfer station: Dakota Area Transfer in Rosemount takes furniture, appliances, mattresses, electronics and construction debris, and Freeway Transfer in Burnsville takes couches, stoves, carpet, drywall and project debris. Cash or credit card only, with a processing fee on cards. No hazardous or industrial waste; no chemicals, paints or sludges; no batteries, cell phones or ballasts; no yard waste, trees, brush or organics; no infectious waste, asbestos or syringes; and no fluorescent bulbs. Appliances containing ammonia or hazardous material are refused.

The facility posts 2026 rates and applies the state solid waste or construction waste tax, so confirm the exact charge before you load. Its published 2026 prices include furniture at $30 per small item and $50 per large item, mattresses and box springs at $30 each, residential appliances at $35 each, and construction loads from $40 for a small car.
