Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

A mattress or box spring is named on the city curbside bulk list and the hauler accepts both in all sizes. It is a curbside bulky item rather than cart waste, and it has to be wrapped before it goes out.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Households on the city 96 gallon premium service, which includes six bulk items per calendar year at no additional charge. Households on the 38 or 68 gallon service, and any item beyond the six item yearly allotment, are quoted and billed by Walters Recycling and Refuse.
When & how
Call Walters Recycling and Refuse at 763-780-8464 at least one business day before the regular collection day, then put the wrapped mattress out next to the trash cart the night before or by 6:30 a.m. on the collection day.
Get it ready
Seal the mattress or box spring in a plastic mattress bag or wrap it fully in plastic, which the hauler requires for crew safety. Keep it out of the trash cart, keep it off the sidewalk and the street, and do not put it out before the pickup is booked, because bulk services are prepaid.

Behind the curb and within two feet of it

The city ordinance behind the collection rules asks for refuse, recyclables and yard waste to be set out immediately behind the curb and within two feet of it, and containers are not allowed in the street. Collection begins at 7AM and the carts are out at the curb by 7AM, so the night before is the safe time to stage everything.

Wrap the mattress, roll the carpet, drain the appliance

A mattress or box spring has to be sealed in a plastic mattress bag or fully wrapped in plastic before the crew will take it. Carpeting goes out rolled and tied or taped with each roll no longer than four feet. Appliances must be empty, water softener brine tanks completely free of salt and water, and the doors removed from any refrigerator, freezer or other appliance that can latch shut.

Book the item and pay before it goes out

Bulk items and appliances are not collected on their own. The city asks households without the premium service to call Walters Recycling and Refuse at 763-780-8464 to arrange the pickup, and it states that all appliance and bulk item services are prepaid. The hauler asks for the booking at least one business day before the regular collection day and gives the price at that point.

Holiday weeks can push the collection back a day

Services that follow a holiday may be delayed one day, and the hauler publishes the delay for each holiday of the year. The 2026 list delays Friday services by a day after New Year's Day, every service by a day all week after Memorial Day and after Labor Day, Thursday and Friday by a day after Thanksgiving, and Friday by a day after Christmas, with no delay around Independence Day.

City of Blaine organized collection with Walters Recycling and Refuse

Book a bulk item pickup with the city hauler

A household with a couch, dresser, table, mattress, box spring, treadmill or another large item that will not fit in the trash cart.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Households on the city 96 gallon premium service, which includes six bulk items a calendar year at no additional charge. Households on the 38 or 68 gallon service, and any item beyond the six item yearly allotment, are quoted and billed by Walters Recycling and Refuse.
Arrange it
Call Walters Recycling and Refuse at 763-780-8464 at least one business day before the regular collection day, describe the item, take the quote and prepay it. Place the approved item at the curb next to the trash cart the night before or by 6:30 a.m., and the crew takes it away on the normal service day.

The service covers larger normal household items rather than a whole house. Construction debris and carpet came out of the premium service in 2017, the six item allotment is per calendar year rather than per pickup, and every item has to be booked and prepaid before it goes out.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Blaine.

How much does mattress removal cost in Blaine?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Blaine?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

Does Blaine collect mattresses at the curb?

Yes, as a bulky item booked with Walters Recycling and Refuse at 763-780-8464 at least one business day before the collection day. The city bulk list names mattress or box spring and the hauler accepts both in all sizes. The piece has to be sealed in a plastic mattress bag or fully wrapped in plastic, and it goes out next to the trash cart the night before or by 6:30 a.m.Official guidance

Who handles garbage collection in Blaine?

Walters Recycling and Refuse, under the city single hauler organized collection system. Every residential property is on the contract that began in January 2016, Walters collects refuse weekly and recycling every other week, and the city bills the household for refuse and recycling while any extra service is billed directly by Walters. Utility billing answers at 763-785-6141, Walters at 763-780-8464, and the city solid waste and recycling programme at 763-717-2637.Official guidance

How do I prepare a mattress or carpet for pickup?

Seal the mattress or box spring in a plastic mattress bag or wrap it fully in plastic, which the hauler requires for crew safety. Carpeting goes out rolled and tied or taped with each roll no longer than four feet. Both are bulky items, so neither goes in the trash cart, both have to be booked with Walters at 763-780-8464 first, and both stay clear of the sidewalk and the street.Official guidance

What does the 96 gallon premium service include?

Six bulk items per calendar year at no extra charge, on top of weekly refuse and every other week recycling, and a fee for each additional bulk item after the six. The footnote on the city rate page also records that the council voted in 2017 to remove construction debris and carpet from that premium benefit, so a remodeling load is a separate paid arrangement rather than one of the six items.Official guidance
