Residential appliances are accepted at the city cleanup events, where a listed appliance, an air conditioner and a propane tank each have their own published line, and the Hennepin County drop-off facility takes large appliances from county households as well.

From $11 per listed appliance at the Saturday cleanup drop-off day, with the same appliance priced higher for curbside pickup, an air conditioner priced above both, and a Hennepin County drop-off facility charging its own per-appliance price. Maple Grove households at the city cleanup events, household waste only, paid at the event for a drop-off and through the utility bill for curbside pickup; or any Hennepin County household with proof of residency at a county drop-off facility. Gas and ammonia appliances are quoted by the city's contractor rather than listed on the table.
When & how
Use the spring or fall cleanup, or drive to the Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station at 8100 Jefferson Highway N. in Brooklyn Park, which opens Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Get it ready
Empty and defrost the unit, tape or remove the doors where the receiving site asks, and tell the attendant that a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner holds refrigerant so it is handled correctly. The city and its recycling company may refuse a unit that has been compacted or destroyed, because the refrigerant cannot be removed safely from a crushed appliance.
Sign up and pay the curbside fee through the city form, and put the items at the curb by 7 a.m. on the pickup day, or plan to pay at the Saturday drop-off day at the Public Works Facility. It is household waste only, business waste is refused, and electronics and furniture are not accepted in either part of the event. Remove gas, oil and non-metal parts from scrap metal before you load it.
Hennepin County takes material from county households with proof of residency such as a driver's license or utility bill. Stay in your vehicle, keep hazardous waste in sealed containers of five gallons or less and upright in a plastic lined box, and carry the load in the trunk, the truck bed or a trailer. The Brooklyn Park station is closed Sunday and Monday and on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Juneteenth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

The city publishes the event table rather than one rate. In the fall event a listed appliance was $22 for curbside pickup and $11 at the drop-off day, an air conditioner was $33 or $22, a 20-pound propane tank was $10 and a one-pound tank $5 at the drop-off day, passenger car tires were free without rims or $5 each with rims at the drop-off day, and scrap metal was free there. Propane tanks and scrap metal are drop-off only, and the curbside fee is added to your utility bill.
Arrange it
Sign up through the city cleanup form and pay the curbside fee by 3:30 p.m. on the Thursday before the pickup, with items at the curb by 7 a.m., or load the vehicle and pay at the Saturday drop-off day at the Maple Grove Public Works Facility from 8 a.m. to noon.
Maple Grove households and household waste only. Electronics, furniture and truck tires are not accepted, only one trip charge applies per address for tire pickup with a limit of ten tires, and a compacted or destroyed appliance can be refused.

The city does not contract a hauler on your behalf, so the price, the notice period and the preparation rules are the company's own. A hauler may refuse an item that is too heavy to handle or that contains refrigerant or hazardous material.
