The local disposal guide
Southaven collects its own household garbage and rubbish through the Public Works sanitation division, with the first trash cart billed at twenty dollars a month, each additional cart at eleven dollars and thirty five cents, and the recycling cart at twelve dollars and sixty one cents. Garbage has to be bagged inside the cart and the cart has to be at the curb by 6:00 A.M. with the lid facing the street, while a second truck runs every route for boxes, limbs, bagged grass clippings, appliances and miscellaneous debris, capped at six cubic yards a week. Trees and anything a contractor cuts or removes are the owner's responsibility under Ordinance 7-15, minor renovation debris may go on the curb, and a larger project needs a dumpster or self removal. The city sends used tires to the county maintenance shop on Gwynn Road and electronics to the county rubbish pit on West Sandidge Road in Olive Branch, and household hazardous waste goes through DeSoto County's annual collection day.
