City residential and small business accounts inside the monthly solid waste fee of $18.70, for bulk material at the curb by 7am on the collection day; bulk collection is not offered to businesses or institutions, and a load above a standard pickup truck bed is treated as excessive and billed.
When & how
Put the furniture at the curb by 7am on the regular trash day. Bulk trucks run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on a convenience schedule rather than on the trash truck's route, so the piece may sit for part of the day and may need more than one trip if the pile is large.
Get it ready
Collect the piece so the bulk truck can reach it, keep it out of the black cart and away from the cart, the recycling cart and mailboxes, and leave at least five feet of clearance around the containers. Separate metals and brush from general junk, because the bulk trucks collect white goods, large junk and yard brush with different equipment.
Each Burlington residential customer gets one black 95 gallon roll out container for household garbage, collected once a week on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday route with no Wednesday collection. The cart goes to the curb by 7:00 am with five feet of clearance on each side and fifteen feet above, and comes back in by 7:00 pm. The lid arrows face the street so the automated arms can grip the container, and the black cart refuses recyclables, yard waste, liquids, dirt, masonry, rock, metal, wood, building materials, ashes, contractor waste, fluorescent tubes, electronic waste and hazardous waste. In congested areas such as the central business district, rear packer trucks collect from containers no larger than 32 gallons, and only clear plastic bags are collected without a permanent container.

Bulk material goes out by 7am on the regular trash day and is collected Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on a convenience schedule rather than a guaranteed same day pickup, and the trucks collect white goods, large junk and yard brush separately, so the pile has to be separated by content. A large pile may need more than one trip. Bulk collection is not offered to businesses or institutions.
