Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions and electronic waste

Special rules apply

A flat screen LCD or LED television is a standard item on the town's Monday bulk list, and electronics are named among the household bulk items the town accepts. Projection tube and rear projection televisions are refused, and the county drop-off centers are the route for those and for computer equipment.

City cost & eligibility
From $40 for for two standard bulk items in one Monday request, with a flat screen television counted as one standard item. Town of Huntersville residential addresses only for the curbside route, with the request paid before midnight on Sunday. County drop-off centers serve county residents with a free entry sticker and proof of residency.
When & how
Out on the Monday bulk run with the town, or dropped at a Mecklenburg County full-service center any Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nothing electronic goes in the household cart or the recycling cart.
Get it ready
Keep the set dry and keep televisions out of both carts. A projection tube or rear projection model does not belong on the town load, so confirm with the county center before you haul it, and expect computer equipment to be limited to two pieces per visit.

Bulk pickup runs on Mondays and is booked by Sunday midnight

The town's bulk and brush service collects on Mondays starting at 7 a.m., and it moves to Tuesday when a holiday falls on a Monday. The request and the payment have to be made through the town's online form before midnight on Sunday, and a request that is cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled pickup brings a refund within 60 days.

Town of Huntersville Public Works, with Waste Connections cart collection and Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling drop-off centers

Town bulk item and brush pile pickup on Mondays

A Huntersville household with a few large items such as furniture, a mattress, an appliance, a flat screen television, metal exercise equipment, flattened moving boxes or one brush pile.

Cost & conditions
From $40 for for two standard items in one Monday request, with additional standard items, oversized items and brush or leaf loads each priced on their own line. Town of Huntersville residential addresses only, booked and paid before midnight on Sunday. Apartment complexes, businesses and addresses outside the town limits are not served.
Arrange it
Complete the town's online bulk item and brush pile request form and pay for it before the Sunday midnight deadline, then have the load at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday. Payment is by credit card online or in cash or by check at Town Hall, and Public Works is on 704-875-7007 for item questions.

The service is meant for a few large items rather than a clean-out or move-out. Construction and demolition material, hazardous material, treated wood, tires, projection televisions, oversized chest freezers, gas cans and paint cans are all refused.

Mecklenburg County full-service drop-off centers

A county household that would rather haul its own bulky waste, construction or demolition debris, yard waste, electronics or tires instead of booking a curbside pickup.

Cost & conditions
County fees apply to bulky waste, construction and demolition debris and yard waste, and the county publishes those rates on a separate fee document rather than on the pages reviewed, so confirm the current charge at the fee booth. Up to five bags of household kitchen trash a day are free to county residents.
Arrange it
Load the vehicle and drive to a full-service center, the closest being the North Mecklenburg center at 12300 Statesville Road in Huntersville, open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. County residents show a free blue entry sticker and proof of residency, and payment is by debit or most major credit cards, with no cash or checks accepted.

Yard waste, construction and demolition debris and bulky trash must be separated before arrival, because mixed loads are charged at the construction rate. A trailer over 12 feet is redirected away from the North Mecklenburg and Hickory Grove centers, business loads and dump trailers may not use North Mecklenburg on Saturdays during current improvement work, and a business card or business vehicle is charged at the business rate.

Free household hazardous waste drop-off

A county household with paint, solvents, automotive fluids, batteries, propane, mercury devices, fluorescent tubes or other household chemicals that cannot go in a cart.

Cost & conditions

Arrange it
Take the material to a full-service center between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and tell on-site staff that hazardous waste is in the load. Keep material in original labeled containers where possible, never mix different chemicals, and pack it securely in a sturdy box.

Pressurised cylinders over 20 pounds, ammunition, gunpowder, explosives, radioactive material, bio-infectious material, pharmaceuticals and smoke detectors are not accepted, and smoke detectors go in the regular trash. Limits apply to some streams, including a 20 gallon motor oil limit and a 100 pound paint limit for residents.
