Mattresses and box springs are on the town's acceptable bulk list for the biannual week. The county route is narrower: mattresses are only accepted at convenience centre sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11, which excludes Morrisville's own Site 3, and only two per household per day.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. A mattress or box spring goes out inside the free biannual bulk pick-up for residents receiving GFL curbside service, counted among the five allowed items and required to weigh under 100 pounds. Wake County convenience centres also accept mattresses, but only at sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11 and only two per household per day with residency verification.

Get it ready
Keep the unit under 100 pounds, keep it dry so it can be handled, count a mattress and box spring as separate items against the five item cap, and expect extra mattresses beyond two at a county site to be routed to the shredder at the South Wake Landfill for a processing fee.
Garbage and recycling are collected every week from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. by GFL Environmental, which the town contracts for the service and which handles missed collections, damaged or missing carts and new-resident sign-up directly on 919-596-1363 or through its service portal. Only three holidays shift the schedule, each backing service up one day: Thanksgiving on November 26, 2026 with Thursday collections moving to Friday and Friday to Saturday, Christmas on December 25 with Friday moving to Saturday, and New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 with Friday moving to January 2. All other holidays are serviced on the normal day. Yard waste is collected twice a month on Wednesdays by route, with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday routes on the second and fourth Wednesdays and Thursday and Friday routes on the first and third, and no collection on a fifth Wednesday, which in 2026 falls on April 29, July 29, September 30 and December 30.
The town collects bulk items once in the spring and once in the fall, free to residents receiving GFL curbside service, with up to five acceptable items per household during the designated week and every item curbside by 7 a.m. on the regular collection day. The 2026 week is October 5 to 9. Furniture such as chairs, tables, sofas, desks, beds and area rugs, mattresses and box springs, grills without propane tanks, push lawnmowers with the fluids drained, scrap metal such as bikes, sports goals, bed frames and swing sets disassembled into lengths of four feet or less, and plastic toys, playhouses and deck boxes are all acceptable, and every item has to weigh under 100 pounds. The town states plainly that it does not provide on-demand bulk pick-up, and multi-family properties serviced by dumpsters are not included, so anything outside the week has to go to a Wake County facility.

The town states that bulk item pick-up occurs twice each year, once in the fall and once in the spring, and that the service is free to all Morrisville residents currently receiving curbside residential solid waste service from GFL, with a total of five acceptable bulk items per household, each under 100 pounds, placed curbside by 7 a.m. on the regular collection day.

The county publishes the accepted list, the residency rule and the hours but no residential fee for convenience centre use, so confirm the current terms on 919-856-7400. A free Trash Pass is required if the load arrives in a box truck, dual-axle or enclosed trailer.
