The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Morrisville collects weekly through GFL Environmental and then answers large items with two town programs and a county system. Bulk items go out once in the spring and once in the fall, free to residents receiving GFL curbside service, with up to five acceptable items per household during the designated week, which in 2026 is October 5 to 9. Furniture, mattresses and box springs are on that list, but white goods and electronics are not: appliances have their own quarterly white goods collection by advance registration, and electronics have to be recycled, with the county's multi-material facilities naming televisions, computers, monitors, consoles, stereos, microwaves and any corded device. Paint, chemicals, batteries and bulbs go to one of Wake County's three household hazardous waste facilities, while cooking oil has a drop-off cabinet at the town's Public Works office and batteries, bulbs and electronics can also be brought to the town's spring and fall Green Day events. Tires are refused by the town and free to Wake County residents at the county's scrap tire facilities.

Bulk items and large household goods

Accepted with preparation

Morrisville collects bulk items twice a year rather than on demand: one spring week and one fall week, free to residents receiving GFL curbside service, with up to five acceptable items per household and each item under 100 pounds. Outside those weeks the town sends residents to Wake County facilities.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The town states that bulk item pick-up happens twice each year, once in the fall and once in the spring, and that the service is free to all Morrisville residents currently receiving curbside residential solid waste service from GFL, with a total of five acceptable bulk items per household during the designated week and every item curbside by 7 a.m. on the regular collection day. Multi-family properties serviced by dumpsters are not included, and the town states that it does not provide on-demand bulk pick-up.
When & how
The 2026 bulk pickup week is October 5 to 9, with items on their regular trash and recycling collection day, and the spring week is announced separately.
Get it ready
Keep the pile to five items and every item under 100 pounds, disassemble scrap metal such as bed frames, swing sets and sports goals into lengths of four feet or less, drain all fluids from a push lawnmower, and keep construction material, electronics, hazardous waste, recyclables, tanks, lithium batteries, microwaves, tires, treated wood, white goods and yard waste out of the pile because each is listed as unacceptable.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

Mattresses and box springs are on the town's acceptable bulk list for the biannual week. The county route is narrower: mattresses are only accepted at convenience centre sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11, which excludes Morrisville's own Site 3, and only two per household per day.

Get it ready

Appliances and white goods

Accepted with preparation

White goods are expressly unacceptable at the bulk pick-up and have their own route: a Public Works collection every three months by advance registration. The county's multi-material facilities take the same appliances year-round.

City cost & eligibility
The town publishes the quarterly white goods collection and its registration rules but no fee, so confirm the current charge and the registration window with Public Works. The county multi-material facilities also accept large appliances such as air conditioning and heating units, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers and water heaters, and the county publishes no residential fee either, so both routes are confirm rather than free.
When & how
The 2026 white goods collections were on March 5, June 4 and September 3, with the winter collection on December 3; the registration form opens one month before each pick-up and requests are due by 5 p.m. on the Monday of the pickup week, with items on the curb by 7 a.m. for collection between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. The county facilities are open Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Get it ready
Register before the deadline, because only registered items are collected, keep the appliance out of a bulk pile since white goods are unacceptable there, empty the unit, and note that a microwave is excluded from the town collection and should go to the South Wake Landfill or a Green Day event instead.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are unacceptable at the town's bulk pick-up with the note that they need to be recycled. The published routes are the county's three multi-material recycling facilities, which name televisions, computers, monitors, game consoles, stereos, microwaves and any corded device, and the town's spring and fall Green Day drive-through.

City cost & eligibility
The county publishes the accepted electronic device list, the site hours and the residency rule but no residential fee for the multi-material facilities, so confirm the current terms on 919-856-7400 before a trip, and confirm the Green Day dates with Public Works.
When & how
Use a multi-material recycling facility on a weekday or Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., or bring batteries, bulbs and electronics to the town's Green Day drive-through in the spring or fall.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before a computer or phone leaves the house, remove batteries where they are separately collected, and keep electronics out of the bulk pile because the town lists them as unacceptable.

Construction and renovation debris

Special rules apply

Building material is unacceptable at the town's bulk pick-up. At county level only household construction debris from a homeowner is taken, and only at specific convenience centres, which excludes Morrisville's own site on Aviation Parkway.

City cost & eligibility
The county publishes the construction rule and the verification requirement but no residential fee for convenience centre use, and oversized loads that do not fit the containers go to the South Wake Landfill subject to posted tipping fees, which the retained page does not price. Confirm the route and any charge on 919-856-7400 before a renovation load leaves the property.
When & how
Convenience centres are open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. except the listed holidays, but household construction debris is only accepted at sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11.
Get it ready
Bring the material as the Wake County homeowner, complete a Waste Verification Form when asked, expect that renters, haulers and contractors cannot drop construction debris unless the homeowner is present, and keep the load out of the town bulk pile where building material is unacceptable.

Treadmills and exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named on either list. The closest published items are scrap metal, which must be disassembled into lengths of four feet or less and kept under 100 pounds, and the town's statement that bulk items outside the two weeks go to a county facility.

City cost & eligibility
No published list or price names an exercise machine. The bulk week is free but limited to five items under 100 pounds, disassembled metal under four feet goes out as scrap, and the county convenience centres take bulky household waste under eight feet long or wide with no published residential fee. Confirm with GFL on 919-596-1363 or the county on 919-856-7400 before the machine goes out.
When & how
Use the spring or fall bulk week, or a Wake County convenience centre any day between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Get it ready
Take the machine down as far as it will come apart, keep each piece under 100 pounds and disassemble metal sections to four feet or less, and remove any battery for separate handling.
Town bulk item disposal page with the twice yearly free pick-up, the statement that no on-demand service exists, the October 5 to 9 2026 week, the five item limit, the acceptable list covering furniture, mattresses, grills, lawnmowers, scrap metal and plastic toys with a 100 pound per item cap, and the unacceptable list covering construction material, electronics, household hazardous materials, recyclables, tanks, lithium batteries, microwaves, tires, treated wood, white goods and yard wasteWake County convenience centres page covering the eleven sites including Morrisville site 3 on Aviation Parkway, the daily hours and holiday closures, the accepted list including household waste and bulky items under eight feet and the mattress restriction to sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11 with a two per day limit, the household only construction debris rule with verification, the electronics weekend rule and the Trash Pass and Waste Verification Form requirements

Tires and automotive items

Accepted with preparation

Tires are unacceptable at the town's bulk pick-up and at the county convenience centres, but Wake County runs dedicated scrap tire facilities where residents dispose of whole, clean tires free of charge.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Wake County states that residents may dispose of scrap tires free of charge at its facilities, that tires must be whole and clean and removed from the rim, that tires must be generated in Wake County with no out-of-county waste accepted, and that a resident dropping off more than five tires must complete Part 1 of the NC Scrap Tire Certification Form and give a copy to the site attendant.
When & how
The South Wake Scrap Tire Facility at 6160 Old Smithfield Road in Apex and the North Wake facility on Deponie Drive in Raleigh are open Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Get it ready
Take the tires off the rims, keep commercial quantities away from the residential route and complete the certification form if more than five are coming, and keep tires out of the town bulk pile and the convenience centres because both refuse them.

Paint, chemicals and batteries

Special rules apply

Hazardous waste is not collected by GFL or by the town's bulk week. It goes to one of Wake County's three household hazardous waste facilities, and the town adds two local touches: a cooking oil drop-off cabinet at Public Works and drive-through recycling of batteries, bulbs and electronics at its spring and fall Green Day events.

City cost & eligibility
The county publishes the accepted and refused lists, the addresses, the hours and the residency rule but no residential fee, so confirm the current terms on 919-856-7400. Latex paint is accepted with a 10 gallon limit at the county sites or can be dried with kitty litter and put in the regular trash, antifreeze and motor oil go to the multi-material facilities rather than the hazardous waste sites, and the town publishes no fee for the Green Day drive-through.
When & how
Use a county household hazardous waste facility: the North Wake site on Deponie Drive in Raleigh accepts drop-offs on Saturdays only, the South Wake site on Old Smithfield Road in Apex is open Monday to Saturday, and the East Wake site in Wendell opens Saturdays and Sundays, all from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to Wake County residents only.
Get it ready
Keep paint, chemicals, batteries, bulbs, motor oil and cooking oil out of the garbage and out of the bulk pile, keep antifreeze and motor oil for the multi-material facilities instead of the hazardous waste sites, dry latex paint with kitty litter if it is going in the regular trash, and keep ammunition, explosives, medical waste, radioactive materials, smoke detectors and unknown materials at home because the county refuses each of them.

Weekly collection runs through GFL

Garbage and recycling are collected every week from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. by GFL Environmental, which the town contracts for the service and which handles missed collections, damaged or missing carts and new-resident sign-up directly on 919-596-1363 or through its service portal. Only three holidays shift the schedule, each backing service up one day: Thanksgiving on November 26, 2026 with Thursday collections moving to Friday and Friday to Saturday, Christmas on December 25 with Friday moving to Saturday, and New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 with Friday moving to January 2. All other holidays are serviced on the normal day. Yard waste is collected twice a month on Wednesdays by route, with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday routes on the second and fourth Wednesdays and Thursday and Friday routes on the first and third, and no collection on a fifth Wednesday, which in 2026 falls on April 29, July 29, September 30 and December 30.

Bulk items go out in two designated weeks a year

The town collects bulk items once in the spring and once in the fall, free to residents receiving GFL curbside service, with up to five acceptable items per household during the designated week and every item curbside by 7 a.m. on the regular collection day. The 2026 week is October 5 to 9. Furniture such as chairs, tables, sofas, desks, beds and area rugs, mattresses and box springs, grills without propane tanks, push lawnmowers with the fluids drained, scrap metal such as bikes, sports goals, bed frames and swing sets disassembled into lengths of four feet or less, and plastic toys, playhouses and deck boxes are all acceptable, and every item has to weigh under 100 pounds. The town states plainly that it does not provide on-demand bulk pick-up, and multi-family properties serviced by dumpsters are not included, so anything outside the week has to go to a Wake County facility.

Town bulk item disposal page with the twice yearly free pick-up, the statement that no on-demand service exists, the October 5 to 9 2026 week, the five item limit, the acceptable list covering furniture, mattresses, grills, lawnmowers, scrap metal and plastic toys with a 100 pound per item cap, and the unacceptable list covering construction material, electronics, household hazardous materials, recyclables, tanks, lithium batteries, microwaves, tires, treated wood, white goods and yard waste

The bulk week refuses white goods, electronics and building material

The unacceptable list is the reason the other routes exist in this packet. Building and construction materials such as bricks, concrete, blocks, pavers, drywall, kitchen cabinets, tiles, porcelain sinks or toilets, aluminium siding, doors, windows, insulation and fencing are refused, as are electronics such as computers, monitors, scanners and televisions, which the town says need to be recycled, household hazardous materials such as paint, fuel, chemicals, batteries, fluorescent lights, motor oil and cooking oils, household recyclables, propane, oxygen and helium tanks, lithium batteries, microwaves, tires and rims, treated lumber and wood pallets, white goods such as washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, stoves and air conditioning units, and yard waste of any kind. White goods have their own quarterly town collection by registration, electronics and appliances go to the county's multi-material recycling facilities, tires to the county's scrap tire facilities, and chemicals to the county's household hazardous waste facilities.

The town states that bulk item pick-up occurs twice each year, once in the fall and once in the spring, and that the service is free to all Morrisville residents currently receiving curbside residential solid waste service from GFL, with a total of five acceptable bulk items per household, each under 100 pounds, placed curbside by 7 a.m. on the regular collection day.
Arrange it
Wait for the published bulk week, which in 2026 is October 5 to 9, and put the items out on the regular trash and recycling collection day.

No on-demand pick-up exists, the week is the only town route, multi-family properties with dumpsters are excluded, and the unacceptable list covers white goods, electronics, construction material, hazardous waste, tires, microwaves, lithium batteries, tanks, treated wood and yard waste.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Morrisville runs a weekly GFL collection and two town programs for large items, then leans on Wake County for everything else. The weekly service collects garbage and recycling Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., yard waste goes out twice a month on Wednesdays by route with bagged clippings and bundled sticks, and only Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day shift the schedule. Bulk items are collected once in the spring and once in the fall, free to residents receiving GFL curbside service, with up to five acceptable items per household during the designated week, which in 2026 is October 5 to 9, and every item has to weigh under 100 pounds: furniture, mattresses and box springs, grills without tanks, push lawnmowers with the fluids drained, disassembled scrap metal in four foot lengths, and plastic toys are the published acceptable list. White goods and electronics are not part of that week. Appliances have their own quarterly white goods collection run by Public Works with registration opening a month ahead, accepted appliance list and a 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. window, with microwaves excluded and directed to the South Wake Landfill or a Green Day event. Electronics have to be recycled, and the county's multi-material recycling facilities take televisions, computers, monitors, consoles, stereos, microwaves and any corded device along with large appliances, motor oil, antifreeze, cooking oil and cardboard, while the town adds drive-through recycling of batteries, bulbs and electronics at its spring and fall Green Day events and a cooking oil cabinet at the Public Works office. Household chemicals go to one of the county's three household hazardous waste facilities, which serve Wake County residents only and refuse business waste, and tires are free to county residents at the dedicated scrap tire facilities once they are off the rims. The county also operates eleven convenience centres, including Site 3 at 266 Aviation Parkway inside Morrisville, open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for household waste and bulky items under eight feet, with the caveats that mattresses and household construction debris are only accepted at sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11 and construction debris only from the homeowner. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Review any applicable sales tax and the final total before payment.

You can book while your items are still inside. Arrange any indoor carrying and have everything outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We load and haul it away from there. Contact us before booking if your property has restricted access.

When is bulk item pickup in Morrisville?

Twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, and the town publishes the 2026 bulk pickup week as October 5 to 9. During that week a household receiving GFL curbside service may leave a total of five acceptable bulk items curbside on its regular trash and recycling day, with everything out by 7 a.m. The town states that it does not provide on-demand bulk pick-up, so an item that misses the week has to go to a Wake County facility instead.Official guidance

Will Morrisville take a couch?

Yes, during one of the two bulk pick-up weeks each year. Furniture such as chairs, tables, sofas, desks, beds and area rugs is on the town's acceptable bulk list, and the service is free to residents receiving GFL curbside service, with up to five items per household and each item under 100 pounds. The town does not offer on-demand bulk pick-up, so a couch outside those weeks has to go to a Wake County facility.Official guidance

Where do mattresses go in Morrisville?

Two routes. A mattress or box spring is on the town's acceptable bulk list, so it can go out during the spring or fall bulk week, counting as one of the five items and staying under 100 pounds. Otherwise Wake County convenience centres take mattresses, but only at sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11, so the Morrisville site on Aviation Parkway is not one of them, and only two per household per day with residency verification.Official guidance

How do appliances leave a Morrisville home?

Through the town's quarterly white goods collection, which runs every three months with 2026 dates of March 5, June 4, September 3 and December 3, and needs advance registration because the form opens a month ahead and closes at 5 p.m. on the Monday of the pickup week. Washers, dryers, freezers, refrigerators, dishwashers, water heaters, stoves, window air conditioners and dehumidifiers are accepted, while microwaves are not and should go to the South Wake Landfill or a Green Day event. The county's multi-material facilities take the same appliances year-round.Official guidance

Where can I recycle a television in Morrisville?

At one of Wake County's three multi-material recycling facilities, whose accepted list names televisions, cell phones, computers, monitors, game consoles, stereos, microwaves and any corded device, open Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the North Wake and South Wake sites. The town's own bulk pick-up will not take electronics, and it describes them as items that need to be recycled; the town also runs drive-through recycling of batteries, bulbs and electronics at its Green Day events in the spring and fall.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Morrisville?

GFL Environmental, under contract with the town, which handles missed garbage, recycling, bulk and yard waste collections, damaged or missing carts and new-resident sign-up on 919-596-1363 or through its service portal. Garbage and recycling are collected weekly Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., and only Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day shift service, each by one day.Official guidance

When is yard waste collected?

Twice a month on Wednesdays, by route: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday garbage routes have yard waste collected on the second and fourth Wednesdays, and Thursday and Friday routes on the first and third Wednesdays, with nothing collected on a fifth Wednesday. Bagged clippings and bundled sticks are what GFL takes, loose leaves and plastic bags are not collected, paper bags are 30 gallons, personal containers must be 35 gallons or smaller, under 50 pounds and labelled Yard Waste, a maximum of five containers is serviced, and no more than 20 yard waste items are taken per visit.Official guidance

What are the limits on the free bulk week?

Five acceptable items per household during the designated week, each weighing under 100 pounds, placed curbside by 7 a.m. on the regular collection day. The 2026 week is October 5 to 9. The town states that it does not provide on-demand bulk pick-up, and multi-family properties serviced by dumpsters are not included, so anything that misses the two annual weeks has to go to a Wake County facility.Official guidance

Do I have to register for white goods collection?

Yes. Registration is required to participate in each of the quarterly white goods collections, the form opens one month before the pick-up date and requests must be received by 5 p.m. on the Monday of the pickup week, and only registered items are collected from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The service is limited to residents receiving town curbside collection, so dumpster-served properties have to arrange disposal through their homeowners association.Official guidance

Can anyone use the Wake County facilities?

No. The convenience centres, multi-material recycling facilities and household hazardous waste facilities are described as serving Wake County residents, with the hazardous waste sites described as being open to Wake County residents only and the county stating that it is not permitted to accept waste from commercial, industrial or institutional sources. Residency verification is required for mattresses at convenience centres, and a Waste Verification Form is required for construction debris, mattresses or loads arriving in an out-of-state or commercial vehicle.Official guidance

What do I do with a microwave?

Not the town bulk week and not the white goods collection. Microwaves are on the unacceptable list for bulk pick-up and are explicitly excluded from the white goods collection, which says they should be dropped off at the South Wake Landfill at 6130 Old Smithfield Road in Apex or at one of the town's Green Day events. The county's multi-material recycling facilities also name microwaves among the accepted electronics.Official guidance
