The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Wake Forest runs a mandatory residential sanitation service through Public Works, with weekly trash, recycling and yard waste collection on the Raleigh Water bill, one trash cart and one recycling cart included, and a monthly fee that the billing page states as twenty four dollars while the older fee schedule page still prints twenty one dollars. Bulk waste is the town's route for large items: pickups run on Tuesdays by appointment, each household gets two free collections a calendar year, and further collections are charged at fifty dollars each. The bulk list names couches, mattresses, box springs, chairs, desks, dressers, exercise equipment, dishwashers, dryers, stoves, washing machines and water heaters, while electronics of every kind, freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners and any appliance holding freon are refused, together with construction and remodelling material, tires and hazardous products. Those streams go to Wake County: electronics and large appliances to a multi-material recycling facility, chemicals to a household hazardous waste facility, and household construction debris or a mattress to one of the five convenience centres that take them, because the two centres in Wake Forest do not.

Four streams leave the curb for Wake County, at the right site

Electronics go to a Wake County multi-material recycling facility, or to convenience centre Sites 1, 4 or 11 on a weekend only. Large appliances with freon, such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning and heating units, washers, dryers and water heaters, also go to a multi-material facility. Chemicals, paint, batteries, flammables and fluorescent bulbs go to a household hazardous waste facility, and household construction debris from the homeowner goes only to convenience centre Sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11 with verification. Mattresses and box springs are accepted only at Sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11, at a maximum of two a day, so the two Wake Forest convenience centres are not the right destination for any of these.

Where can a mattress go in Wake Forest?

Two routes. The town bulk list names mattresses and box springs, so they can go out on a Tuesday bulk appointment, with two free collections a calendar year and fifty dollars for each collection after that. Wake County also takes mattresses and box springs only at convenience centre Sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11, with residency verification and a maximum of two a day, and additional mattresses go to the South Wake Landfill shredder for a processing fee. The two convenience centres in Wake Forest do not accept mattresses.Official guidance

Can a refrigerator go out as Wake Forest bulk waste?

No. The town's bulk page lists appliances such as freezers, refrigerators and air conditioning units as not acceptable, and states that no appliance or equipment containing freon can be collected. A refrigerator, freezer or air conditioning unit goes instead to a Wake County multi-material recycling facility, such as North Wake on Deponie Drive in Raleigh or South Wake on Old Smithfield Road in Apex, both open Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dishwashers, dryers, stoves, washing machines and water heaters are accepted on the bulk route.Official guidance

Where do televisions and computers go in Wake Forest?

Not in the trash or recycling cart, and not to a bulk pickup, because the town refuses electronics such as televisions, computers, printers, copiers and microwaves. Use a Wake County multi-material recycling facility, which takes televisions, computers, monitors, game consoles, stereos, microwaves and any corded device, or a convenience centre at Sites 1, 4 or 11, where electronics are accepted on weekends only. The two convenience centres in Wake Forest do not take electronics.Official guidance

Who collects trash and recycling in Wake Forest?

The town does, through the Public Works Department on 919-435-9570, under a mandatory residential sanitation service for single-family dwellings of up to four units with private driveways. The service includes one trash cart, one recycling cart and weekly collection on the Raleigh Water bill, and Republic Services provides a free collection assistance programme for the elderly and disabled through Public Works.Official guidance

How does bulk waste pickup work in Wake Forest?

Bulk pickups are Tuesdays by appointment only, and a request submitted before 2 p.m. on Monday is collected the next day. Each household gets two free collections a calendar year, and each further collection is charged at fifty dollars. The acceptable list names couches, chairs, recliners, desks, dressers, tables, shelves, mattresses, box springs, exercise equipment, dishwashers, dryers, stoves, washing machines and water heaters, while electronics, freon appliances, tires, liquid paint, batteries, hazardous material and construction material are refused.Official guidance

Where do the items the town refuses go?

To Wake County. Electronics and large appliances with freon go to a multi-material recycling facility such as North Wake on Deponie Drive in Raleigh or South Wake on Old Smithfield Road in Apex, both open Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Chemicals, paint, batteries and bulbs go to a household hazardous waste facility, with North Wake temporarily closed and running a Saturday collection event. Mattresses and household construction debris go only to convenience centre Sites 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11, so the two Wake Forest centres are not the destination for those.Official guidance
