When & how
Arrange the drop-off with Cross Electronics Recycling or Scrap Central and deliver the appliance during their hours; do not put it in the blue cart and do not book it as a bulky pickup, because the hauler will not collect it.
Get it ready
Empty the appliance and clean it out, keep it upright, tape the doors closed for transport, and ask the receiving business whether any part of the unit has to be removed before it will be accepted.
Carts go to the curb the night before or by 7 a.m. on the service day, four feet away from poles and mailboxes, two feet apart from each other, with the lids completely closed. The automated trucks can only lift what fits inside the cart, so anything left beside the cart is not collected unless it is a booked bulky pickup or a bag of yard waste during the season. Disabled customers can request walk-up service with a form from the hauler.
The blue landfill cart refuses paint, solvents, motor oil, appliances, antifreeze, car batteries and tires because they cannot be landfilled, and the same list applies to anything you might otherwise pile beside the cart.
