A television and a microwave do not leave the curb in Dover even with a tag, because the city says both must be brought to the Recycling Center and charges a published fee for each. Computer equipment goes to the same site, with monitors, printers, scanners, laptops, copiers and fax machines priced per device and CPUs, keyboards and mice taken free. The center also takes cell phones, automobile and rechargeable batteries and fluorescent tubes up to four feet long.

Dover residents and contractors bringing the device to the Recycling Center with the no-charge vehicle permit, paying at the site by check, credit or debit card.
When & how
Bring the device to the Recycling Center at 265 Mast Road during its open hours and pay at the site, where the city takes checks, credit and debit cards and adds a processing fee to a card payment.
Get it ready
Measure a television before you load it, because the fee changes at 36 inches, and do not set a screen, monitor or microwave out with a tag. Alkaline batteries are ordinary trash, while lithium-ion, automobile and NiCad batteries come to the center, and a fluorescent tube has to be four feet or shorter to be taken.
Bags, tags and recycling follow the same set out window
Everything for curbside collection goes out by 7 a.m. on your trash day, and nothing goes to the curb earlier than 4 p.m. the day before. A 15 gallon Dover bag holds no more than 20 pounds and a 30 gallon bag no more than 35 pounds, both tied shut, and a tagged bulky item leaves on the same day as the trash. Recycling goes out with it, and the city will not collect bottles, cans or paper that are left curbside in plastic bags.
The bulky item tag is published for non-metal items, so a couch, a mattress, a toilet or a rolled carpet can leave from the curb while a refrigerator, a washer, a television, a microwave and a large load of construction material cannot. Buy the tag before collection day at the City Clerk's Office, the Public Works facility on Mast Road, the Recycling Center or a store that sells Dover bags, and attach it to the item you are setting out.
The Recycling Center takes the restricted items, and it charges for some of them
Household recycling, metal, yard waste, batteries, waste oil, antifreeze, tires, propane tanks and compostable food scraps are taken at the Recycling Center on Mast Road, and the city says recycling in Dover is free. The same site prices the restricted material: construction and demolition debris by weight, refrigerated appliances and rolling copiers per item, televisions and microwaves per item, and computers per device. Arrange it
Take the material to 265 Mast Road during the published hours and unload it yourself at the marked area for each material, allowing extra time if the load has to be weighed.
The site does not take bulky items, household trash or hazardous waste, padded furniture is refused, and the construction scale closes fifteen minutes before the gate.
