Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions

Accepted with preparation

Televisions are named among the electronics accepted during the clean-up weeks and are also taken at the township recycling centre on New Durham Road.

City cost & eligibility
The township publishes the electronics drop-off and the clean-up accepted list but no fee for either, so confirm any charge with public works at 732-248-7288 before the television is moved.
When & how
Take the set to the Edison Township Recycling Center at 745 New Durham Road, open Monday to Saturday from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM, with proof of residency and a residential vehicle, or set it out during the clean-up week that matches the recycling section.
Get it ready
Keep the screen whole and dry and wipe anything that stores data. Never put a television in the regular garbage or with the recyclables, because the township forbids recyclables in the garbage and treats electronics as a separate stream.

Household waste only, in the supplied container

Edison garbage collection follows the municipal collection areas, and residents in private collection areas deal with their own hauler. Only the supplied containers are acceptable, and a cardboard, paper or plywood drum used as a container is itself classified as garbage and taken away. The stream is household waste only: building and demolition material such as garage doors, shingles and construction lumber is refused, along with textiles, fixtures, trees, earth or stone, refuse and industrial waste, and dirt, stone, wood, ashes, sawdust and metal must not go into a garbage can. Recyclables belong in the separate recycling container, and an obstructed can is not collected.

Spring and autumn clean-up weeks run by recycling section

The township opens two clean-up windows a year, one in the spring and one in the autumn, each assigned by recycling section to a Saturday. Collections begin at 6:00 A.M., and material has to be at the kerb before that and no sooner than 48 hours ahead of the collection date. The accepted list covers furniture, box springs and mattresses wrapped and sealed in plastic, metals, up to four interior doors, up to two vinyl or metal window frames without glass, one each of a toilet, tank and metal tub with the tank separated, carpet limited to one room or ten rolls under 5 feet and 50 pounds, up to four sections of fencing, washers, dryers, microwaves, electronics including televisions, printers and computers, wrapped glass under 50 pounds and a refrigerator with the doors removed. Branches, unwrapped bedding, pallets, construction material, uninspected hot water heaters, recyclables, paint, tires, glass over 50 pounds and textiles are refused.

Use the spring or fall clean-up week

An Edison household with furniture, wrapped bedding, appliances, carpet, fencing, fixtures, electronics or wrapped glass that can wait for the section's clean-up Saturday.

Cost & conditions
The township publishes the clean-up dates and the accepted and refused lists but no fee, so confirm whether the clean-up week carries a charge before relying on it.
Arrange it
Find the recycling section for the address, set the material out no sooner than 48 hours before the assigned Saturday and before 6:00 A.M. on the collection day, and expect the crew to start promptly at 6:00 A.M.

The accepted list sets quantity limits, including four interior doors, two window frames, one each of a toilet, tank and metal tub, carpet limited to one room or ten rolls, four fencing sections and wrapped glass under 50 pounds, and unwrapped mattresses, construction material, pallets, textiles, recyclables, paint, tires and uninspected hot water heaters are refused.

Take recyclables and electronics to the township centre

An Edison resident with single stream recyclables, large cardboard or electronic devices such as a television, computer, printer or monitor.

Cost & conditions
The township publishes the centre, its hours and its residency rules but no fee, so confirm any charge with public works at 732-248-7288 before the trip.
Arrange it
Drive to the Edison Township Recycling Center at 745 New Durham Road between 6:30 AM and 2:00 PM Monday to Saturday, bring proof of residency such as a driver's licence or utility bill, and use a residential vehicle because the centre accepts material only from one.

Residents only with proof of residency, residential vehicles only, and nothing may be left outside the gate when the centre is closed, which the township treats as an ordinance violation. Glass and plastic bags follow the curbside recycling rules rather than a separate drop-off.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self hauling in Edison means using the township recycling centre and booking the bulky routes before anything goes out. The Recycling Center at 745 New Durham Road opens Monday to Saturday from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM, takes single stream recyclables and electronics such as computers, printers, monitors and televisions, asks for proof of residency like a driver's licence or utility bill, accepts material only in a residential vehicle and treats items left outside the gate after closing as an ordinance violation. Large household items do not go to the centre and do not go out on a regular garbage day either: white goods, metal and bulky items are booked through the public works office at 732-248-7288, and nothing may be placed at the kerb until a confirmation number has been issued. Twice a year the township also runs clean-up weeks by recycling section, one in the spring and one in the autumn, with collections starting at 6:00 A.M. and material allowed out no sooner than 48 hours beforehand. Those weeks accept furniture, mattresses wrapped and sealed in plastic, metals, limited doors, window frames, fixtures, carpet, fencing, washers, dryers, microwaves, electronics, wrapped glass and refrigerators with the doors removed, and they refuse branches, unwrapped bedding, pallets, construction material, uninspected hot water heaters, recyclables, paint and hazardous waste, tires and textiles. Construction material is never collected on any route, and paint and household hazardous waste go to the Middlesex County schedule the township links. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Edison.

How much does TV removal cost in Edison?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Edison?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where does a television go in Edison?

To the township recycling centre at 745 New Durham Road, which takes electronics including computers, printers and monitors and opens Monday to Saturday from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM, or into the spring and fall clean-up weeks, which list televisions with printers and computers among the accepted electronics. The centre asks for proof of residency such as a driver's licence or utility bill and accepts material only in a residential vehicle, and no fee is published for either route.Official guidance

Who collects Edison garbage and recycling?

Edison Township public works collects household garbage and single stream recycling in the municipal collection areas, and residents in private collection areas are told to contact their own haulers for both schedules and questions. Only supplied containers are acceptable, recyclables must be kept in a separate container and out of the garbage, and the township is divided into 10 recycling sections collected every other week.Official guidance

What are the limits during an Edison clean-up week?

The clean-up weeks run by recycling section on assigned Saturdays with collection starting at 6:00 A.M., and material has to be out before that and no sooner than 48 hours ahead. The quantity limits are four interior doors, two vinyl or metal window frames without glass, one each of a toilet, tank and metal tub with the tank separated, carpet limited to one room or ten rolls under 5 feet and 50 pounds, four sections of fencing, and wrapped glass under 50 pounds. Mattresses must be wrapped and sealed in plastic, refrigerators must have the doors removed, and branches, pallets, construction material, textiles, recyclables, paint, tires and uninspected hot water heaters are refused.Official guidance

What will Edison never take?

Construction and demolition material is refused on every route at any time, and the garbage rules name garage doors, shingles and construction lumber as examples, with dirt, stone, wood, ashes, sawdust and metal banned from garbage cans too. Paint and other household hazardous waste are refused in the garbage, in the clean-up weeks and at the recycling centre, tires are refused in the clean-up weeks, and textiles and pallets are refused as well.Official guidance
