Nothing bulky goes out without a confirmed appointment
Every bulk item has to be scheduled with the Public Works dispatcher at 518-270-4579 or through the city's online request form, which requires a phone number. If a pile appears at the curb or in the alley without a request, the property owner receives a removal charge and a penalty under the city littering code.
Set out the night before the confirmed date, not earlier
Items may not be placed at the curb until after 6 p.m. the night before the confirmed pickup date, and household garbage follows a similar window, out after 7 p.m. the night before or before 6 a.m. on the collection day. Garbage has to be in the city-provided water-tight container rather than in a bag, and recyclables go out in the city blue container in the same window.
The bill charges each individual item on the published pricing sheet and adds a hauling fee for every haul removed, where one haul is up to two cubic yards no matter the dimensions. Two appliances side by side count as one haul, so grouping the pieces keeps the hauling part of the bill down. Bills go to the property owner and are due 30 days from the bill date, and billing questions go to the Office of General Services at 518-279-7141.
