Mattresses and box springs are named on the city bulk list, and a mattress has to be wrapped before it goes to the curb on the scheduled bulk day.
City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no charge for a scheduled bulk pickup, so call the waste collection call centre at 937-333-4800 or open a request in Dayton Delivers to book the pickup and confirm the current terms.
When & how
Bulk pickup runs one Friday a month and must be scheduled in advance, and the collection day for an address shifted by one day in any week that contains a holiday.
Get it ready
Wrap the mattress or box spring, keep it inside the five large item limit, and put it out by 6:30 a.m. on the scheduled day in front of the home when the regular collection is at the curb or at the alley line when the collection runs in the alley. Leave furniture assembled and keep the bedding clear of cars, mailboxes and trees.
Out by 6:30 a.m., and the container back in by 8 a.m. the next day
Containers and bulk items are at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on the collection day, and the container comes back in from the curb line, alley or front yard no later than 8 a.m. the day after collection. The city notes that a household has a collection day rather than a collection time.
Carpet is rolled into a bundle four feet long and two feet in diameter and tied with rope, furniture is left assembled, loose and small items are securely contained, bundled or bagged, and broken glass is taped with the resident cleaning up any glass residue left in front of the home.

Five large items or up to twenty five small bags or boxes per pickup, once a month, no material from an eviction, move out or foreclosure, and no hazardous or flammable products, automotive parts, excavating and building materials, pianos, HVAC parts, air conditioners, spas, hot tubs or pool tables.
