You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.

Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Furniture, heavy appliances and bulky household items
Accepted with preparation
The city's own cart guide tells a household to put furniture and heavy appliances out next to the trash cart, which is how bulky household items leave a Youngstown property. There is no separate bulky appointment published, so the items ride the collection next to the cart.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Collected with the city service, with no separate charge published for furniture or a heavy appliance placed beside the cart. The only money the city publishes in this program is the $500.00 minimum service charge under Section 979.05 for abating a waste set over 20 cubic yards, which applies to an excessive accumulation rather than to an ordinary heavy item.
When & how
Put the heavy item next to the cart on the night before the regular collection day, and keep the cart itself clear of the item so the automated arm can reach the container.
Get it ready
Keep the item out of the cart, because loose trash and the other barred materials are what the cart refuses, and leave enough clearance around the cart. Construction debris is expressly excluded from the ordinance definition of waste the city collects, so it is not part of this route and has to be handled separately.
The city publishes a mattress sheet with one clear condition: every mattress and box spring has to be wrapped in plastic and taped shut before it goes to the curb. The sheet states that the trash service will take them wrapped, and that an unwrapped mattress at the curb is littering that can draw citations and fines.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Taken by the city trash service with the collection when the unit is wrapped in plastic and taped shut, with no separate charge published for a wrapped mattress or box spring.
When & how
Wrap and tape the unit before it goes out, then place it at the curb with the collection on the regular collection day.
Get it ready
Wrap the whole mattress or box spring in plastic and tape it shut, because the city states that an unwrapped unit at the curb is littering that can be penalized, and wrap it for the practical reason the city gives, which is to stop the spread of bed bugs. Keep it out of the cart and keep the cart clear so the automated arm can reach the container.
Heavy appliances go out next to the trash cart under the same cart guide instruction that covers furniture, and Green Youngstown additionally runs annual special recycling drives that its page names for appliances along with household hazardous waste, autumn leaves and Christmas trees.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Collected with the city service when the appliance is placed beside the cart, with no separate charge published. The annual special appliance recycling drive that Green Youngstown describes is a separate event whose dates and terms are not published here.
When & how
Put the appliance next to the cart on the night before the regular collection day, and watch the city's notices for the annual appliance recycling drive if a household would rather use that route.
Get it ready
Keep the unit out of the cart, because auto parts, tires and batteries are barred from it, and keep the cart clear of the appliance so the automated arm can reach the container. The city publishes no refrigerant handling rule for an appliance set out this way, so ask Public Works on (330) 742-8800 if the unit still holds refrigerant.
Tires are barred from the trash cart, and Green Youngstown states that tires have to be disposed of at a regulated and licensed facility rather than through the city collection.
City cost & eligibility
No city rate exists because the city does not collect tires. The Ohio EPA keeps the current list of licensed tire haulers and licensed tire disposal facilities at (330) 963-1200, and Green Youngstown also links a Mahoning County list of licensed locations, so the cost is set by whichever licensed facility the household uses.
When & how
Call the Ohio EPA on (330) 963-1200 for the current licensed list, or use the Mahoning County licensed facility list Green Youngstown links, before moving the tires.
Get it ready
Keep tires out of the cart, out of a heavy trash set and out of the recycling bin, because the cart guide lists tires among the barred items and the city routes them to a licensed facility instead.
Exercise equipment is not named in the cart guide, on the heavy trash instruction or by Green Youngstown. The nearest published category is the instruction to put furniture and heavy appliances out next to the cart, so a treadmill or a weight machine is confirmed with Public Works first.
City cost & eligibility
No exercise equipment entry or rate is published, so confirm with Public Works at (330) 742-8800 whether the machine is taken as heavy trash beside the cart, and call (330) 742-8890 if the issue turns into a missed collection or a cart problem.
When & how
Call Public Works before the machine goes out, and put it beside the cart only for a collection day the department confirms.
Get it ready
Take the machine apart as far as it comes apart so it can be lifted, keep loose weights with the frame, keep it out of the cart, and keep any console or screen for the electronics drop-off instead, because that route is the published one for electronic items.
Put the item out next to the trash cart on the night before the regular collection day, not inside the cart, and keep the cart itself clear so the automated arm can reach it. A mattress or box spring has to be wrapped in plastic and taped shut before it goes to the curb, because the city treats an unwrapped one as littering that can draw citations and fines.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Put heavy items out with the cart
A Youngstown household with furniture, a mattress or box spring, or a heavy appliance.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Collected with the city service, with no separate charge published for furniture, a heavy appliance or a wrapped mattress placed beside the cart. The city publishes only the $500.00 minimum service charge under Section 979.05 for abating an excessive waste set over 20 cubic yards.
Arrange it
Place the item next to the cart on the night before the regular collection day, with a mattress or box spring wrapped in plastic and taped shut.
The item cannot go inside the cart, construction remodeling or demolition trash is barred from the route, and a set of waste over 20 cubic yards falls under the excessive quantity ordinance with its minimum service charge.
A Youngstown household with tires left over from a vehicle.
Cost & conditions
No city rate exists because the city does not collect tires. The cost is set by the licensed hauler or licensed disposal facility the household chooses, and the current list of both is available from the Ohio EPA at (330) 963-1200.
Arrange it
Call the Ohio EPA on (330) 963-1200 for the licensed list, or use the Mahoning County licensed facility list that Green Youngstown links, then deliver the tires there.
Tires cannot go in the trash cart and cannot go out as heavy trash, and the city does not publish any recommended rate or single facility.

Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Youngstown.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Youngstown?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
How do I put a couch or heavy appliance out in Youngstown?+
Put it next to your trash cart. The city's 96-gallon cart guide instructs households to place furniture and heavy appliances out beside the cart, so the item rides the regular collection rather than a separate bulky appointment. Keep the cart itself clear of the item so the automated arm has room, keep the item out of the cart, and remember that construction remodeling or demolition trash is on the cart's do-not list.Official guidance
How do I get rid of a mattress in Youngstown?+
Wrap it in plastic and tape it shut, then put it at the curb on your regular collection day. The city's mattress sheet states that the trash service will take mattresses and box springs when they are wrapped and taped, and that placing one at the curb unwrapped is littering that can draw citations and fines. The wrap is also what the city asks for to stop the spread of bed bugs, and sanitation answers questions on (330) 742-8800.Official guidance
Where does a refrigerator or another large appliance go in Youngstown?+
Next to your trash cart on the regular collection day, because the city's cart guide instructs households to put furniture and heavy appliances out beside the cart. The appliance never goes inside the cart, which bars auto parts, tires and batteries, and the city does not publish a refrigerant rule for this route, so call Public Works on (330) 742-8800 if the unit still holds refrigerant. Green Youngstown also runs an annual appliance recycling drive.Official guidance
Where do tires go in Youngstown?+
To a regulated and licensed facility. Green Youngstown states that tires are required to be disposed of at a regulated and licensed facility and directs residents to the Ohio EPA on (330) 963-1200 for the current list of licensed tire haulers and disposal facilities, with a Mahoning County list of licensed locations also linked. Tires are on the do-not list for the city trash cart, so they never go out with the household load.Official guidance
Will Youngstown take a treadmill?+
Confirm it with Public Works first on (330) 742-8800. Exercise equipment is not named in the cart guide, which covers the automated cart, or in the instruction to put furniture and heavy appliances out beside the cart, so the department has to say whether the machine goes out as heavy trash. If it does, it rides the regular collection beside the cart, and any console or screen should go to the electronics drop-off instead.Official guidance
What does Youngstown charge for trash and bulky items?+
The city publishes no per household collection rate, so confirm any account charge with Public Works on (330) 742-8800. Furniture, heavy appliances and a wrapped mattress go out with the service beside the cart at no separately published charge, and curbside recycling bins are free from the Green Youngstown office. The one money figure in the program is the minimum service charge of 500 dollars that Section 979.05 allows for removing a waste set over 20 cubic yards, and the electronics drop-off charges a fee for each television and monitor while taking other electronics free.Official guidance
What will Youngstown not take?+
Loose trash, hot coals or burning ash, construction remodeling or demolition trash, and auto parts, tires and batteries are all barred from the city trash cart, and construction debris sits outside the ordinance definition of waste the city collects, which leaves it with the household or contractor. Tires have to go to a regulated and licensed facility rather than the city. Household chemicals wait for one of the special drives Green Youngstown holds, and a waste set over 20 cubic yards falls under the excessive quantity ordinance with its minimum service charge.Official guidance
