The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Owasso collects one city cart and up to three 30-gallon bags a week, and the city is clear that furniture, appliances, mattresses, carpet and construction debris never ride that truck. Those items go to the Recycling Center and Disposal Station at 499 South Main, where the city publishes a price for each piece, including a refrigerant removal service for a cooling appliance. Televisions, computers and household pollutants follow regional routes instead, through the Metropolitan Environmental Trust and the City of Tulsa's household pollutant facility.

Weekly curbside refuse in the city cart

Accepted with preparation

Owasso collects one city-issued green polycart plus up to three 30-gallon bags once a week, and only city containers are emptied.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no per-collection rate on these pages; refuse billing runs through the utility account and Utility Billing answers on 918-376-1520. Confirm the current rate and the cart terms with the city.
When & how
Have everything at the curb before 7 a.m. on the collection day, and not earlier than 24 hours ahead. Bring the emptied cart back in within 12 hours.
Get it ready
Bag all trash, keep the cart under 200 pounds, leave the lid closed and nothing on top, keep the cart within four feet of the curb with four feet of clearance around it, and do not add lid straps or other modifications. Furniture, appliances, mattresses, carpet, cardboard, metal and construction debris do not belong in or beside the cart.

Recycling at the 24-hour Recycle Center

Accepted with preparation

Cardboard and other recyclables do not go in the refuse cart, and the Owasso Recycle Center on South Main is open around the clock for them.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Owasso residents using the city Recycle Center at 499 South Main. The city states that boxes and cardboard may be dropped there at no charge.
When & how
The Recycle Center is open 24 hours a day. The Disposal Station beside it, which handles trash and bulky items, keeps separate counter hours.
Get it ready
Keep cardboard, boxes, paper, plastics, glass and metal out of the refuse cart and take them to the Recycle Center instead. Bagged household trash, food waste and yard waste do not belong at the Recycle Center.

Bulk items and white goods at the Disposal Station

Special rules apply

Bulk material does not come off the curb in Owasso, so it goes to the Disposal Station at 499 South Main, where the city prices bulk items and white goods by size and prices common trash by the load.

City cost & eligibility
From $3 for the published bulk item and white goods range of $3 to $35 depending on size, with common trash charged separately by load from $4 for a bag to $180 for a stacked double-axle trailer. Owasso Recycling Center and Disposal Station, 499 South Main, during counter hours. Confirm the item and the category at the gate or on 918-272-4991 before you load.
When & how
Take the load to the Disposal Station Tuesday to Friday 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or the first Thursday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and not on a designated holiday.
Get it ready
Sort the load by category before arriving, because the station prices each item, each piece of furniture and each appliance rather than charging one blanket fee. Keep hazardous waste, paint other than latex and anything the station refuses out of the load.

Stoves, washers, dryers and other appliances

Accepted with preparation

Appliances are on the non-collectable list and the Disposal Station prices them one by one, from a microwave and dishwasher to a washer, dryer, stove or water heater.

City cost & eligibility
$7 for the microwave price, with a dishwasher, push lawnmower, sink, toilet or vacuum at $7 to $10, a washer, dryer, stove or hot water tank at $15, a rider lawnmower at $25 and a refrigerator without refrigerant at $20. Owasso Recycling Center and Disposal Station, 499 South Main during counter hours. Confirm the unit and the price at the gate or on 918-272-4991.
When & how
Take the appliance to the Disposal Station Tuesday to Friday 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or the first Thursday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Get it ready
Empty the unit and keep appliances out of the refuse cart. Ask about a cooling unit before you load it, because the station prices a refrigerant-free refrigerator separately and sells a refrigerant removal service of its own.
Disposal Station ratesRefuse collection rules and non-collectable items

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners

Special rules apply

The Disposal Station prices a refrigerator without refrigerant on the schedule and lists a refrigerant removal service, while the city's free landfill day refuses air conditioners and refrigerators outright.

City cost & eligibility
The schedule shows a refrigerant removal service at $15 and a refrigerator without refrigerant at $20, but it does not say whether the station will drain the unit for you or whether it must arrive already emptied, so confirm the sequence and the total on 918-272-4991 before you load a cooling appliance.
When & how
Take the unit to the Disposal Station during counter hours once the refrigerant question is settled. Do not plan on the free landfill day for a cooling appliance, because that event refuses air conditioners and refrigerators.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, secure the doors and do not cut any refrigerant line. Ask whether the station performs the refrigerant removal service on site and what paperwork it expects, and keep the unit out of the refuse cart.

Televisions, computers and other electronics

Special rules apply

Owasso publishes no city electronics drop-off, so the regional M.e.t. centres take computers, printers and small appliances free, and charge a fee for monitors and televisions that is paid online.

City cost & eligibility
The M.e.t. lists free drop-off for cameras, computer batteries, towers, copiers, fax machines, keyboards, laptops, microwaves, phones, printers, cords, small appliances, UPS systems and VCR and DVD players, with monitors and televisions accepted for a fee that is paid online and is not printed on the page. Confirm the current fee before you load.
When & how
Use one of the M.e.t. centres at Broken Arrow, Central Tulsa, Claremore, Downtown Tulsa, Glenpool or Sand Springs. The M.e.t. does not list Owasso among the e-waste centres, so do not assume the Owasso affiliate takes electronics.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before a computer leaves the house, keep cords and remotes with the device, and keep air conditioners, large appliances, items over 50 pounds, light bulbs, vape devices and refrigerators out of the load because the M.e.t. refuses them.

Construction and remodeling debris

Not on the regular city route

Lumber, bricks, dirt, stones, sheetrock and carpet are all on the city's non-collectable list, and the Disposal Station publishes no construction category, so a project load is a private arrangement.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no construction collection, and the Disposal Station lists no construction category even though it prices common trash loads by truck or trailer size and a carpet roll separately, so a small load has to be confirmed at the gate and a project load needs a private container or hauler. The city's free landfill day is the one municipal route, on the published date only.
When & how
Ask the station on 918-272-4991 before taking a debris load, or arrange a private container. The free landfill day runs once on its published date at the Waste Management Quarry Landfill.
Get it ready
Keep lumber, bricks, dirt, stones, sheetrock, carpet and metal out of the refuse cart and off the curb. Carpet rolls are priced separately at the station, and paint, liquids, tires and cooling appliances are refused at the free landfill day.

Exercise machines and weights

Special rules apply

No Owasso page names exercise equipment, so the machine has to be confirmed with the Disposal Station, where bulk items and white goods are priced by size.

City cost & eligibility
The station publishes a bulk item and white goods range of $3 to $35 based on size and separate prices for a lawnmower, vacuum and furniture, but nothing for an exercise machine, so confirm the size, the weight and the price on 918-272-4991.
When & how
Call the station first, then take the machine in during counter hours if it is accepted.
Get it ready
Take the console and loose weights off, keep the frame as one manageable piece, and separate any metal or electronic part so it can be priced on its own line. Do not put the machine in the refuse cart, because the city lists metal and furniture as non-collectable.

How do bulk items leave an Owasso home?
