The local disposal guide
Ashland runs residential collection through Recology Ashland, which picks up trash, recycling and green waste at the curb and also operates the Valley View Transfer Station on North Valley View Road. Large items have two published routes: a household can call Recology for a bulky item collection that runs on Wednesdays with fees applying, or put the piece out for the hauler's bulky item disposal event, which is typically held in the spring, and the transfer station takes drop-offs in the meantime. The station charges by volume with a minimum charge up to a yard and a half, and it publishes an item list that makes mattresses and box springs free up to five a day, a sofa, chair or rollaway bed ten dollars and seventy five cents, an appliance twenty three dollars and twenty cents without a motor or thirty eight dollars and fifty five cents with one, a refrigerator forty nine dollars and thirty cents, and construction and inert material ninety two dollars and ninety cents a yard. Electronics come in free under Oregon E-Cycles at seven items a day, while the station is allowed to take only a short list of hazardous material, so paint goes back to a PaintCare retailer, medications go to a police station drop box, and most other chemicals wait for the annual county events. The city also runs two free green debris days each spring with the fire department and Recology.

Recology Ashland provides curbside collection of trash, recycling and green waste for residential customers, with different trash roll cart sizes and glass kept in its own bin.
Large loads can go to the Valley View Transfer Station, which prices by volume with a minimum charge up to a yard and a half and then a lower rate for each additional yard, or a household can call Recology for a bulky item collection that runs on Wednesdays with fees applying, or use the hauler's bulky item disposal event that is typically held in the spring.
A sofa, chair or rollaway bed is on the transfer station price list at ten dollars and seventy five cents each, and a household that would rather not haul it can call Recology for the Wednesday bulky item collection or use the spring bulky item disposal event.

Electronics come in free at the transfer station under Oregon E-Cycles, at seven items a day.
Project material is priced at the transfer station, with soil, concrete and rock far higher than ordinary trash and 10 or 25 cubic yard debris boxes available for a renovation.
Exercise equipment is not named on the operator's price list or in the brochure, so the load has to be confirmed as bulky material before it is hauled.
Green debris is charged at the transfer station during the year and accepted free on the city's two spring drop-off days.
Recyclables are collected at the curb and accepted free at the transfer station, with glass in its own bin.
The transfer station may accept only a short list of hazardous material, so paint goes back to a paint retailer, medications go to a police station drop box, sharps are banned from the trash, and other chemicals wait for the annual county events.
The handoff matters
Recology Ashland collects trash, recycling and green waste at the curb for residential customers, and the brochure asks that recyclables go out loose, clean and dry with glass in a separate 20-gallon bin. Leave the spacing the brochure shows between the glass, blue, green and trash containers so the truck can reach each one, and expect a one day delay when service falls on or after Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year's Day.
2025 Recology Ashland residential brochure with curbside service, cart spacing and delaysThe Valley View Transfer Station at 3000 N Valley View Road opens Monday through Saturday 7:30 AM to 4 PM and is closed Sunday, the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, with a 2 PM close on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Payment is by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, check or cash. Sort the load before arrival, because the rate depends on the material: scrap metal, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, mixed household recyclables, used motor oil and mattresses are free, while soil, concrete and rock are charged at the highest listed rate and compacted loads cost more than loose ones.
Valley View Transfer Station hours, accepted material and the disposal rate tableUnder the Oregon E-Cycles program, seven electronics a day are accepted at the Valley View Transfer Station free of charge, through Recology Ashland and Universal Recycling Technologies. Computers, televisions and monitors, non-commercial printers, tablets, keyboards and mice are named. If a television or monitor is cracked, tape over the crack, place all the pieces in a box, tape the box shut and label it Broken Screen before bringing it in.
Electronics and universal waste, including the Oregon E-Cycles free allowanceThe Valley View Transfer Station is not permitted to accept most hazardous waste and can take only vehicle batteries, fluorescent tubes and CFLs, non-PCB ballasts, used motor oil in containers up to 5 gallons, used antifreeze and electronics. Medications, paint and sharps are refused and must not go in the trash bin: paint goes back to a PaintCare retailer such as Miller Paint or the Ashland Hardware Store, medications go to a police station drop box in Ashland or Talent, sharps are banned from the trash and recycling by Oregon law, and most other chemicals wait for the annual events in Medford and Grants Pass.
