Appliances have two published routes in Grants Pass. Republic Services sends them to the Josephine County Recycle and Transfer Station on Merlin Road, which charges one fee for a freon free appliance and a higher one for a unit containing freon, while the Southern Oregon Sanitation station on Redwood Avenue prices appliances per unit and freon units separately as well.
City cost & eligibility
From $10 per appliance recycled at the Josephine County transfer station on Merlin Road, where freon free units are ten dollars each and units containing freon are twenty five dollars each on the franchised hauler's published schedule. Resident drop-off; the alternative station on Redwood Avenue charges a different per appliance rate and prices freon units separately, so confirm which station suits the unit before loading.

Get it ready
Empty the unit, keep it upright, tape or tie the doors, and tell the gate whether the unit contains refrigerant because that changes the fee at both stations.
Grants Pass residents receive weekly garbage collection and recycling from a franchised hauler, with cart sizes and rates set through the Solid Waste Agency. Neither hauler publishes a curbside bulky item service, so anything that will not fit the cart goes to a transfer station rather than onto the curb, and mixed loads at the station are charged as garbage until the stations say otherwise.
The Redwood Avenue station applies a minimum charge that covers up to one and a half cubic yards, then charges household trash, yard waste and roofing material by the cubic yard, with compacted material at a higher rate. Single items are different: mattresses and box springs, furniture and appliances each have a printed fee, freight units are priced above standard appliances, and tires are priced by type with the rims counted. Pickup loads start at the small or full size pickup minimum.

Prices are published per item and per cubic yard rather than as one figure: mattresses and box springs, furniture and appliances are 14.80 each, appliances containing freon are 37.40 each, car tires with rims are 14.80 each and truck tires with rims 22.20 each, household trash and yard waste are 16.75 per cubic yard and roofing 32.20 per cubic yard above a minimum charge that covers up to one and a half cubic yards. Expect the minimum charge on a small load.
