City cost & eligibility
No charge. Metro Central takes mattresses and box springs from residential customers at no charge, up to four per customer per day. Car beds, foldout sofa beds, futons, crib mattresses, waterbeds and air mattresses are charged as garbage instead. Heiberg, the city's hauler, picks up items too big for the container for a separate charge that has to be quoted by phone.

The hauler pickup is arranged by phone and runs on the collection day it sets. Metro Central is open to residential customers on the hours Metro publishes on its own transfer station page, and the co-located hazardous waste facility keeps different hours.
Get it ready
Take bedding off so the piece can be handled, and keep it out of the container because extra cans are limited to thirty two gallons and forty pounds. Confirm which route you are using before the mattress leaves the house, since the hauler charge and the Metro allowance are different rules.

The hauler closes only on Christmas and New Year's Day
