The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Sandy collects through a franchised hauler rather than a city crew, and the City Council adopts the residential rates the hauler charges each year, so the adopted rate schedule effective March 1, 2026 governs what a household pays. Hoodview Disposal & Recycling runs weekly garbage with a choice of cart sizes, weekly recycling collected on the same schedule with its cost inside the garbage cart total, an optional weekly yard debris cart, and a curbside bulky collection priced per item with refrigerant recovery charged on top for air conditioners and refrigerators. Households that would rather drive a load themselves use the Clackamas County Garbage and Recycling Transfer Station on SE Canyon Valley Road, which is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays and prices furniture, mattresses, appliances and tires on its own table. Household chemicals cannot go to either of those places and are routed to the Metro South Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Oregon City.

Weekly garbage, recycling and yard debris

Accepted with preparation

The franchise hauler collects garbage once a week from a cart the household rents by size, with recycling collected on the same weekly schedule and included in the garbage cart total rather than billed separately, plus an optional yard debris cart. The city adopts the price of each cart size every year, and extra bags, cart changes and service call backs carry their own charges.

City cost & eligibility
$38.52 per month for the weekly 35 gallon garbage cart. Sandy residential customers of Hoodview Disposal & Recycling under the adopted exhibit effective March 1, 2026. The same exhibit prices a 20 gallon weekly cart at $32.36, a 60 gallon weekly cart at $61.64, a 90 gallon weekly cart at $68.57 and a 32 gallon can on a monthly pickup at $21.57; the weekly 65 gallon yard debris cart at $8.24; an extra can or bag of solid waste set out on the regular collection day at $9.46 and an extra can or bag of yard debris at $3.99; recycling at $0.00; a cart delivery or pickup after a size change more than once a year at $21.62; a cart replacement at $70.00 with one replacement a year at no cost; a call back charge at $9.23; a restart charge at $16.17; backyard or sideyard service from $60.72 a month for a stop within 50 feet up to $97.02 at 601 feet or more; and hourly service at $96.92 for a truck and one person or $130.91 for a truck and two.
When & how
Garbage is collected weekly from the household's cart, recycling runs on the same weekly schedule, and yard debris follows the weekly cart schedule where the household subscribes to it. Questions, cart changes and missed pickups go to the hauler on 503-668-8300.
Get it ready
Keep garbage inside the cart the household rents, because an extra can or bag set out on the regular collection day is charged separately, and keep recyclables in the commingled cart with glass in its own bin. Ask the hauler before a cart size change, because the first change in a year is handled differently from a second.
City of Sandy adopted residential rates effective March 1, 2026 for Hoodview Disposal & Recycling with the cart prices, the free recycling service, the yard debris cart and extra bag charges, the backyard service ladder, the call back, restart, cart delivery and replacement fees, the hourly rates, the per tire price and the per item furniture and appliance range with the Freon removal noteHoodview Disposal & Recycling residential garbage pickup page with the weekly service, the cart sizes the hauler lists, the recycling and yard waste services, the bulky pick up entry for furniture and home appliances and the customer service line

Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and out of the garbage cart, set it flat so it can be lifted cleanly, and take the matching box spring at the same time if the household is paying the set price at the station.

Appliances and white goods

Accepted with preparation

Appliances go out on the hauler's bulky collection, and anything holding refrigerant carries an extra charge that the adopted rate sheet adds on top of the item price. The county transfer station takes the same appliances and charges one flat price for a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner, with the scrap metal value handled separately at the recycling depot.

City cost & eligibility

Sandy residential customers of Hoodview Disposal & Recycling under the adopted exhibit effective March 1, 2026, where Freon removal for an air conditioner or refrigerator is charged on top of the item rate; the county transfer station charges $27 each for a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner even if the refrigerant has been removed.
When & how
Call 503-668-8300 to arrange the bulky pickup and ask what the refrigerant removal adds, or take the appliance to the Clackamas County transfer station between Thursday and Monday.
Get it ready
Empty the appliance, tape the doors shut for the trip, keep it upright, and keep it out of the garbage cart. Removal of refrigerant is a charged step at the curb and is expected before the station will take the unit as well.

Televisions, monitors and computers

Accepted with preparation

Electronics do not go in the curbside carts, but the county transfer station is a recycling depot for televisions, monitors and computers alongside scrap metal, and the county points readers to the regional recycler finder for the current accepted list and any fee.

City cost & eligibility
Clackamas County lists the Sandy transfer station as a recycling depot that takes televisions, monitors and computers, but the county publishes no household price for them and refers readers to Metro's Find a Recycler tool or 503-234-3000 for fees and restrictions, so confirm the current charge before loading a set.
When & how
Take the device to the Clackamas County transfer station on SE Canyon Valley Road between Thursday and Monday, or use the recycler finder the county publishes, and confirm the fee on 503-234-3000 or 503-260-1577 first.
Get it ready
Wipe the personal information off computers, phones and smart televisions before anything leaves the house, keep cables and remotes with the device, and never put electronics in the curbside recycling cart.

Construction, demolition and remodeling debris

Special rules apply

Remodeling material is not a curbside item in Sandy. The county transfer station prices heavy waste and demolition debris by the cubic yard but will not accept suspect asbestos material without Oregon DEQ testing and documentation, and the hauler rents clean out containers and drop boxes for a project load instead.

City cost & eligibility
From $32 for the minimum charge at the Clackamas County transfer station for a load under a cubic yard, with heavy waste and demolition debris at $47.20 per cubic yard above that. Household loads hauled to the station on SE Canyon Valley Road; a load has to be covered or the station adds a $10 unsecured load fee, and suspect asbestos containing construction, demolition or remodeling debris needs Oregon DEQ testing and documentation before the station will accept it.
When & how
Call 503-260-1577 before a project load goes out, ask about the asbestos documentation if the building is not new, and either take the load to the station between Thursday and Monday or order a drop box through Hoodview on 503-668-8300.
Get it ready
Separate heavy demolition material from light household rubbish so the load is billed at the right rate, keep suspect asbestos containing material out of the truck until the testing paperwork is in hand, cover the load so it cannot blow out on the road, and keep construction material out of the recycling cart.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named in the city rate sheet or the county lists, but a treadmill or a weight machine is exactly the kind of heavy, awkward item the hauler's bulky service handles by quote, so the route exists and the price has to be confirmed as an item with special handling.

City cost & eligibility
The adopted rate sheet prices bulky items per item, from a minimum up to the maximum, based on weight and how much special handling the piece needs, and an inaccessible item moves to the hourly rate. Exercise equipment is not named anywhere, so call Hoodview on 503-668-8300 with the machine and where it sits to get the actual price.
When & how
Call 503-668-8300 first, describe the machine and how the crew can reach it, and set it out only once the collection is arranged.
Get it ready
Take the machine down as far as it will come apart, keep the weights and parts with it so the weight is honest, and stage it where the truck can reach it without a long carry.

Tires

Accepted with preparation

Tires have two published routes and two different prices. The hauler collects them at the curb for the per tire rate on the Sandy rate sheet, and the county transfer station takes the same passenger tires for less per tire when the household drives them in, with the rim deciding the price at both places.

City cost & eligibility
From $14.2 per tire collected at the curb off the rim for a rim size of 18 inches and under, with the on rim price at $16.58 under the adopted exhibit. Sandy residential customers of Hoodview Disposal & Recycling under the adopted exhibit effective March 1, 2026; the county transfer station instead charges $4.50 off the rim and $6.00 on the rim for passenger and light truck tires up to 16 inches, with larger sizes priced on its own table.
When & how
Call 503-668-8300 to have tires collected at the curb, or take them to the Clackamas County transfer station between Thursday and Monday, where the price is set at the scale.
Get it ready
Keep tires out of the garbage and recycling carts, stack them so they cannot roll, and decide before the trip whether the rims are staying on, because both the curbside rate and the station rate change with the rim.

Paint, chemicals and household hazardous waste

Accepted with preparation

Household chemicals have one route in this market and it is not the transfer station. Clackamas County refuses paints, batteries, light bulbs, cleaners, medical sharps and propane tanks at the Sandy station and sends them to the Metro South Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Oregon City, which is open every day.

City cost & eligibility
Clackamas County names the Metro South Household Hazardous Waste Facility as the place for household hazardous waste and publishes its address and hours, but no price for a household drop off appears on the county pages read, so confirm the current terms on 503-234-3000 before loading paints, batteries, bulbs, cleaners or a propane tank.
When & how
Take the material to the Metro South Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2001 Washington Street in Oregon City, which is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day and closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
Get it ready
Keep every product in its original labeled container and never mix chemicals, keep liquids upright and sealed, and keep household hazardous waste out of the curbside carts, the recycling carts and any load headed to the Sandy transfer station, which refuses it by name.

Weekly carts, and a cart you keep at the size you rent

Garbage is collected once a week from the cart the household rents, recycling rides the same weekly schedule in a commingled cart with a separate glass bin, and the yard debris cart follows its own weekly schedule where a household subscribes. The city adopts the price of each cart size and the charge for an extra bag, a cart change or a service call back, so the size a household picks is what it pays for.

Bulky items are arranged, not left out

A bulky item is collected by arrangement with the hauler rather than on the regular cart route, and the adopted rate sheet prices each item by weight and handling with an hourly rate when the crew cannot reach it easily, plus a refrigerant removal charge on an air conditioner or refrigerator. Call 503-668-8300 before the item goes out, and leave it where the truck can reach it.

Rules for the load you drive in

The Clackamas County transfer station is open Thursday through Monday and closed Tuesday, Wednesday and the three main holidays, and it accepts credit cards, debit cards and cash. Loose loads have to be covered or the station adds an unsecured load fee, household hazardous waste and suspect asbestos containing remodeling debris are refused, and heavy waste and demolition debris is billed at a higher rate than household rubbish.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Sandy households that haul their own loads use the Clackamas County Garbage and Recycling Transfer Station at 19600 SE Canyon Valley Road, which is open Thursday through Monday and closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Garbage is billed per cubic yard with a minimum, heavy waste and demolition debris at a higher rate, and furniture, mattresses, appliances and tires have their own prices on the station table, with refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners charged as a unit whether or not the refrigerant has been removed. The same site has a recycling depot for cardboard, glass, scrap metal including appliances and lawnmowers, wire, motor oil at a five gallon a day limit, electronics such as televisions, monitors and computers, and lead acid vehicle batteries, and the on site RecycleOn Center takes shredded paper, plastic bags, caps and lids and six pack handles. Loads have to be covered or the station adds an unsecured load fee, and household hazardous waste in any form is refused, so paints, batteries, bulbs, cleaners, medical sharps and propane tanks go to the Metro South Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2001 Washington Street in Oregon City, which is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. When the Sandy station is closed, the county's Metro South Transfer Station in Oregon City runs seven days a week with seasonal hours. Remodeling loads need special care, because construction, demolition and remodeling debris that may contain asbestos has to have Oregon DEQ testing and documentation before any transfer station will accept it. Do my items need to be outside when I book?

You can book while your items are still inside. Arrange any indoor carrying and have everything outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We load and haul it away from there. Contact us before booking if your property has restricted access.

How do I get a bulky item picked up in Sandy?

Call Hoodview Disposal & Recycling on 503-668-8300 and arrange the pickup, because the curbside bulky service is billed per item and the item has to be reachable by the crew. The adopted rate sheet sets the range by weight and handling, and the county notes a hauler will collect a large appliance or piece of furniture even from a household that is not a regular customer.Official guidance

Why would a bulky pickup be charged by the hour?

Because the adopted rate sheet says the hourly rate applies when the item is not easily accessible, with a truck and one person or a truck and two people each priced separately. Keeping the item in the open where the truck can reach it avoids that hourly charge.Official guidance

Will Sandy pick up a couch at the curb?

Yes, through the hauler's per item bulky collection arranged on 503-668-8300, with the price based on the item's weight and handling. A household that would rather drive it can take the couch to the county transfer station, which charges a flat price per piece.Official guidance

What does it cost to get rid of a refrigerator in Sandy?

It is a bulky item at the curb plus the Freon removal the adopted rate sheet adds on top, so call 503-668-8300 for the combined price. The county transfer station instead charges one flat price for a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner regardless of the refrigerant work.Official guidance

Can appliances go in the recycling in Sandy?

Not in the curbside recycling cart, but the county transfer station recycling depot accepts large and small appliances and scrap metal, and the station's scrap metal listing covers appliances, bicycles and lawnmowers when the liquids have been drained.Official guidance

Where do televisions and computers go in Sandy?

To the Clackamas County Garbage and Recycling Transfer Station on SE Canyon Valley Road, which the county lists as a recycling depot for televisions, monitors and computers as well as scrap metal. The station is open Thursday to Monday and the county refers readers to 503-234-3000 for accepted material and fees.Official guidance

Who collects garbage in Sandy?

Hoodview runs weekly garbage, weekly recycling included in the garbage cart total and an optional yard debris cart, and answers service questions on 503-668-8300.Official guidance

How are Sandy garbage rates set?

The City of Sandy adopts a residential rate sheet for the franchise hauler, and the current exhibit is effective March 1, 2026. It prices each weekly cart size, the yard debris cart, extra bags, bulky items, tires, cart changes and service call backs, and Clackamas County directs residents of cities other than its own franchise areas to the city for those fees.Official guidance

How does yard debris collection work in Sandy?

The adopted rate sheet includes a weekly 65 gallon yard debris cart for households that want one, and an extra can or bag of yard debris set out on the regular collection day is charged at the yard debris rate rather than the higher solid waste rate.Official guidance

Where can I take a load myself near Sandy?

To the Clackamas County Garbage and Recycling Transfer Station at 19600 SE Canyon Valley Road, which is open Thursday through Monday and closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
