Large household appliances

Accepted with preparation

Appliances come off the curb once a month on a Tuesday, but only with a recycling sticker bought from the city beforehand.

City cost & eligibility
$25 per appliance set out for the monthly collection, paid in advance as a city recycling sticker. The sticker is bought at the Public Works office at 60 Commercial Way by 10 a.m. on the Thursday before the collection. The published list covers a stove, refrigerator, freezer, hot water tank, built-in microwave, dismantled swing set, dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, gas grill, exercise equipment and other miscellaneous metal items, and an appliance can also be dropped at the Public Works yard.
When & how
Buy the sticker before the Thursday deadline, then put the appliance at the curb no more than twenty-four hours before the collection day. The city collects appliances on the second Tuesday of each month.
Get it ready
Empty and clean a refrigerator or freezer before it goes out, remove or secure doors so nothing can be trapped inside, and keep the appliance out of the rubbish cart and the recycling cart.

City of East Providence Refuse and Recycling Division with Rhode Island Resource Recovery

Buy the recycling sticker for the monthly collection

A household with an appliance, exercise equipment or another large metal item that needs the city's monthly collection.

Cost & conditions
$25 per item, paid in advance as a city recycling sticker bought at the Public Works office. The sticker is bought at 60 Commercial Way by 10 a.m. on the Thursday before the collection, and the published list covers stoves, refrigerators, freezers, hot water tanks, built-in microwaves, dismantled swing sets, dishwashers, washers, dryers, gas grills, exercise equipment and other miscellaneous metal items.
Arrange it
Buy the sticker at the Public Works office at 60 Commercial Way, then put the item at the curb no more than twenty-four hours before the collection day. Call 401-435-7701, option 7, about anything not on the list.

The item is only collected once the sticker is bought before the Thursday deadline, and the monthly appliance run is separate from the Friday bulky appointment and from the Saturday mattress schedule.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

The self-haul routes for an East Providence address are the city yard and the state campus. At 60 Commercial Way the Department of Public Works takes e-waste, scrap metal, propane tanks, auto batteries, antifreeze, used motor oil, cooking oil, rigid plastic and used books Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the city publishes no rate for those drop-offs. The Resource Recovery campus in Johnston is where a mattress that is not torn or damaged goes free year-round, and its residential recycling area and small vehicle transfer station handle special and bulky drop-offs, while household hazardous waste is a free appointment-only Eco-Depot service. The campus brings material in Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and Saturday 6 a.m. to noon, and the operator publishes a separate accepted-materials and pricing list, so confirm the gate price before a load of anything other than bedding leaves the house. Construction and demolition debris has no municipal route at all and goes to the Johnston landfill or a private collector. City drop-off yard for e-waste, metal and household recyclables

60 Commercial Way, East Providence, RI 02914

E-waste including televisions, monitors, computers, printers, cartridges, wire and cable, VHS and DVD players and anything with a plug; scrap metal including microwaves, bikes, bed frames, metal furniture and appliances; empty propane tanks from one-pound to twenty-pound sizes; auto batteries; antifreeze; used motor oil and filters; cooking oil; rigid plastic such as old barrels, coolers, totes, milk crates and lawn furniture; used books; and paint through the state PaintCare programme.

Open to residents during the yard's weekday window, and the tire route is not here, with local tire businesses handling tires for a nominal fee. Antifreeze and motor oil go into the labelled collection containers, and hardened paint goes in the trash rather than a drop-off. The city's office alongside the yard keeps separate weekday hours.

Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the recycling drop-off, with the division office open Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The city publishes no fee for the drop-off items it lists at this yard, and it also does not state the drop-off is free, so confirm the current terms on 401-435-7701. Paint is a separate case: its reuse and disposal is funded by a state fee charged on each architectural paint container sold in Rhode Island.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Appliance removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in East Providence.

How much does appliance removal cost in East Providence?

A full-size household refrigerator is $109 as a single item. A washing machine is $109, and a dryer is $109. Other appliances have their own catalog prices. Choose each item to see your exact total before booking; disposal and recycling costs are included in the item price.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in East Providence?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.

Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

How does the appliance collection work?

Household appliances including washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, hot water tanks, air conditioners and gas grills are collected on the second Tuesday of each month. Residents buy a recycling sticker at the Public Works office at 60 Commercial Way by 10 a.m. on the preceding Thursday, then put the appliance at the curb not more than twenty-four hours in advance. The same appliances can be dropped at the Public Works yard.Official guidance
