White goods and metal items

Accepted with preparation

White goods and metal are one of the city's separated bulk categories. Refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washing machines, dryers, water heaters and window air conditioners are all named, and refrigerator and freezer doors have to come off before the appliance goes to the kerb.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. City of North Charleston residential addresses served by the weekly sanitation collection, for white goods and similar metal items placed in their own separated pile. No per item charge is published for this service.
When & how
Set the appliance out no earlier than 48 hours before your scheduled collection day, in the white goods and metal pile rather than with furniture or yard debris.
Get it ready
Remove refrigerator and freezer doors before placement, because the city requires it for safety, and empty the unit before it leaves the house. Keep the metal pile separate from furniture and building material so it is not refused as a mixed load.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Separate the piles or they will not be collected

Bulk trash has to be placed at the kerb in separate piles by category: white goods and metal, furniture and building material, yard debris, leaves and grass, and concrete. The city states plainly that mixed piles cannot be collected, and a pile set out earlier than 48 hours before the collection day is not part of the regular service.

City of North Charleston Sanitation Division with Charleston County Environmental Management for drop-off

Weekly city collection with separated bulk piles

A North Charleston household with white goods, furniture, small amounts of building material, yard debris, leaves, grass or a little concrete.

Cost & conditions
No charge. City of North Charleston residential addresses served by the weekly sanitation collection, with no per item bulk charge published. The extra capacity charge for an additional garbage roll cart is separate.
Arrange it
Sort everything into the five published piles, put the material out no earlier than 48 hours before the collection day, and keep the roll cart at the street side before 7 a.m. with the lid closed and the handle facing the house.

Mixed piles are refused, e-waste and hazardous products are refused, contractors and businesses cannot use the service, building material is capped at 90 gallons and concrete at one cubic foot per pickup.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

North Charleston keeps self haul inside the county rather than at a city yard: the city publishes no drop-off centre of its own, and its Sanitation Division page states that services it no longer handles, including e-waste such as televisions and computers, are provided by Charleston County Environmental Management, with a Dorchester County link for residents in that direction. The city's own programme is the kerbside one, and it works only when the load is sorted into white goods and metal, furniture and building material, yard debris, leaves and grass, and concrete. Mixed piles are refused, contractors and businesses are excluded, building material is capped at 90 gallons and concrete at one cubic foot per pickup, and everything except the roll cart has to be out no earlier than 48 hours before the scheduled collection day. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Appliance removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in North Charleston.

How much does appliance removal cost in North Charleston?

A full-size household refrigerator is $109 as a single item. A washing machine is $109, and a dryer is $109. Other appliances have their own catalog prices. Choose each item to see your exact total before booking; disposal and recycling costs are included in the item price.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in North Charleston?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.

Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

Do appliance doors have to come off in North Charleston?

Yes for refrigeration units. The city requires refrigerator and freezer doors to be removed before the appliance is placed at the kerb, as part of its white goods and metal category, which also covers stoves, washing machines, dryers, water heaters and window air conditioners.Official guidance

Who collects trash in North Charleston?

The city's Sanitation Division collects garbage and trash from residential addresses inside the city limits on a weekly schedule, and it does not collect from commercial or industrial establishments. Service requests, complaints and help for physically disadvantaged residents go through Public Works on 843-745-1026.Official guidance

Can a business use the North Charleston collection?

No. The city does not pick up garbage from commercial or industrial establishments and requires non residential properties to provide for their own disposal, and the bulk rules also refuse trash generated by contractors, landscapers, businesses or other non residential sources.Official guidance

When is recycling collected in North Charleston?

It depends on which county the address sits in, because the city splits the programme. The Sanitation Division states that recycling is collected the same day as garbage and yard waste, while the recycling page says Charleston County runs the curbside recyclables collection on its own schedule in the parts of the city that lie in Charleston County, and that Dorchester County provides convenience sites such as Oakbrook on Old Fort Drive. Cart material goes out before 7 a.m. and no more than twelve hours early, and yard waste has to be in paper bags.Official guidance
