The local disposal guide
North Charleston collects residential garbage every week in a city roll cart and takes bulk material on the same service, but only if it is sorted first. White goods and metal go in one pile with refrigerator and freezer doors removed, furniture and small amounts of building material in a second, yard debris cut to four feet and six inches in a third, leaves and grass in paper bags, and concrete in a fifth, capped at a cubic foot. Mixed piles are refused outright, contractors and businesses cannot use the service, and televisions, computers, paint, oil and pressurised containers never go to the kerb at all. Electronics are now a Charleston County service, and the only charge the city publishes for this programme is the one time cost of buying a second garbage roll cart.

Neither city page read publishes a tire rule, so tires cannot be assumed to be part of the bulk collection. The city routes disposal questions it cannot answer to the county, which is also where the city's own e-waste referral points.

The handoff matters
Bulk trash has to be placed at the kerb in separate piles by category: white goods and metal, furniture and building material, yard debris, leaves and grass, and concrete. The city states plainly that mixed piles cannot be collected, and a pile set out earlier than 48 hours before the collection day is not part of the regular service.
Bulk trash separation categories, white goods rules and refused materialsRoll carts go to the street side before 7 a.m. on the collection day, no more than twelve hours beforehand, and come back in within twelve hours of pickup. Carts are positioned with the lids closed and the handles facing the house.

Furniture goes in its own pile at the kerb, separate from white goods, yard debris and concrete, because the city will not collect a mixed pile. Small amounts of construction debris share the furniture pile, capped at 90 gallons of building material per pickup, and nothing goes out earlier than 48 hours before the collection day.Official guidance
Yes for refrigeration units. The city requires refrigerator and freezer doors to be removed before the appliance is placed at the kerb, as part of its white goods and metal category, which also covers stoves, washing machines, dryers, water heaters and window air conditioners.Official guidance
No. The city states that it no longer picks up e-waste such as televisions and computers and that this is now a service provided by Charleston County, which the city links from its Sanitation Division page. E-waste is also on the list of materials the kerbside bulk collection refuses.Official guidance

The city's Sanitation Division collects garbage and trash from residential addresses inside the city limits on a weekly schedule, and it does not collect from commercial or industrial establishments. Service requests, complaints and help for physically disadvantaged residents go through Public Works on 843-745-1026.Official guidance

It depends on which county the address sits in, because the city splits the programme. The Sanitation Division states that recycling is collected the same day as garbage and yard waste, while the recycling page says Charleston County runs the curbside recyclables collection on its own schedule in the parts of the city that lie in Charleston County, and that Dorchester County provides convenience sites such as Oakbrook on Old Fort Drive. Cart material goes out before 7 a.m. and no more than twelve hours early, and yard waste has to be in paper bags.Official guidance
