No charge. Furniture counts as bulky trash within the two item weekly allowance included with the contracted service, with no separate fee published. A piece in good condition can also go to the Habitat ReStore instead of the curb.
When & how
Set the furniture at the curb by 6 a.m. on the collection day, using one of the two weekly bulk items.
Get it ready
Break a sectional sofa down into its components before it goes out, because an unbroken down sectional is on the refusal list along with other large or heavy items. Keep furniture with living pests out of the pile, and consider the ReStore for anything still in good condition.
The contracted weekly service takes two cans of up to 96 gallons, two bags and two bulk items, all out by 6 a.m. on the collection day. An oversized or large box counts as a bulk item while an ordinary box should be broken down into a bag or can, and a heavy item such as a basketball goal, a trampoline or a sectional sofa has to be broken down into components before it will be collected.
When the curb route refuses a piece, the city names two alternatives. Furniture, appliances and household items in good condition can go to the Habitat ReStore at 327 Sumner Hall Drive, and the Sumner County Resource Authority at 625 Rappahanncock Wire Road in Gallatin takes bulk trash items including construction debris, with the county site setting its own accepted items, cost and hours.
