Bags & household clutter in AbileneCity collection Brush and bulky material leaves the property on a city collection that comes through once in each odd month and can also be requested for a Wednesday or Friday. The standard load has to fit inside eight feet by four feet by three feet, and a scheduled pickup may be billed by the hour for whichever truck handles it. The regular brush and bulky run is part of the residential service the household already pays for monthly, and the city fee schedule publishes hourly loading rates for a pickup that has to be scheduled rather than the neighborhood run, so call Solid Waste Services on 325-676-6053 and confirm whether your material goes out on the odd month Monday visit or needs a scheduled collection and an hourly charge.

The local disposal guide
Abilene runs its own collection and the city code makes Solid Waste Services the only agency allowed to collect solid waste inside the city limits, with short term construction debris the single exception for a private hauler. Households get twice weekly curb or alley collection, a Brush and Bulky pickup that comes through once in each odd month and can also be scheduled, and free resident drop offs for brush, bulky items, electronics, recyclables and household chemicals at 2149 Sandy Street and 2209 Oak Street. The monthly collection charge and a monthly environmental charge sit on the Solid Waste fee schedule, the brush and bulky scheduling line carries hourly truck rates, and the two Abilene area landfills are privately owned, so the city does not set their gate prices.

Every household gets garbage collection twice a week, either from a 95 to 96 gallon curbside container or from a shared 300 gallon alley barrel, and the Solid Waste fee schedule sets the monthly collection charge plus a monthly environmental charge that every account pays.

Construction debris never goes in a cart, is refused at the Citizens Convenience Station, and is the one load the city's exclusive collection ordinance lets a household hand to a private hauler. The city's own route is a roll-off container, priced on the fee schedule and available for short term project use.
Exercise equipment is not named in any Abilene list, but a treadmill or a weight machine is bulky material and the city collects bulky items on the odd month run or by arrangement, with the standard pickup fitting inside eight feet by four feet by three feet.
Tires are refused in the carts and at the Citizens Convenience Station and are priced by rim size at the Environmental Recycling Center, with rims and oversized tires refused outright.
Household chemicals have a resident program at the Environmental Recycling Center with a published accepted and refused list, and usable products are reissued to other residents through the center's free Re-Store instead of being disposed of.
