City cost & eligibility
No charge. Carrollton single-family residential accounts inside the contracted solid waste service, for a mattress inside the three cubic yard weekly bulk allowance; a self-hauled mattress is also accepted at the landfill drop-off inside the six cubic yard monthly allowance.
When & how
Set the wrapped mattress at the curb after 6 p.m. the evening before the regular collection day and before 6:30 a.m. on the collection day, and use the Saturday landfill drop-off instead if the load is part of a larger cleanout.
Get it ready
Wrap the mattress in plastic as the city asks, keep the piece dry, and leave the frame and headboard as separate items in the same pile so the whole load stays inside the three cubic yard limit.
One collection day a week and a tight set out window
Trash and bulk waste are collected one day each week from Carrollton single-family homes, with the day shown on the city waste services map or confirmed on 972-466-4950. City ordinance wants the material at the designated collection point no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before and no later than 6:30 a.m. of the collection day, and carts come back off the street no later than 9 a.m. the following day. Bins are placed at least three feet apart and three feet from mailboxes with the lid closed and facing the street, and code violations can be reported on 972-466-3060.
Bulk is a curb pile with a limit, and it is not a dumping ground
Bulk covers appliances, furniture, rugs, mattresses, televisions, tree limbs, fence material and similar large items, and the weekly allowance is three cubic yards of bulk plus three cubic yards of brush. Everything has to be generated on the property by the homeowner, so waste from another site will not be collected, and excess household trash that will not fit the green roll-out container is not bulk at all. Piles need three feet of clearance from bins, mailboxes, gas meters, fences and parked cars and 16 feet of clearance overhead, and limbs are cut into 4-foot lengths and bundled at no more than 40 pounds.
